Meet ๐๐ข๐๐ฆ๐ก (pronounced Neev), a tiny ginger kitten rescued from a feral colony. Instead of enjoying kittenhood, sheโs fighting an incredibly rare medical battle.
At just ๐๐ข๐ฏ๐ ๐ฆ๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ก๐ฌ ๐จ๐ฅ๐, Niamh has developed ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ข๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐๐๐ซ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐จ๐ง๐๐ฌ ๐ฆ๐๐๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ฅ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ ๐๐ฆ ๐๐๐๐ก - something extraordinarily unusual in a kitten this young.
Her bladder is severely inflamed, the bladder wall is markedly thickened, and testing has revealed a significant bacterial infection. Sheโs been passing blood in her urine and has even managed to pass one small stone on her own.
That stone has been sent for analysis. The results may help us understand ๐ฐ๐ก๐ฒ ๐ ๐ค๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ฌ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐ก๐๐ฌ ๐๐๐ฏ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐๐ก ๐ฅ๐๐ซ๐ ๐ ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐๐๐ซ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐จ๐ง๐๐ฌ, and whether thereโs an underlying condition that also needs treatment.
For now, sheโs on antibiotics, and a ๐ฉ๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ฉ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐๐ซ๐ฒ ๐๐ข๐๐ญ in the hope the stones will dissolve. Sadly, because of their size, surgery is becoming the most likely outcome.
Weโve been quoted ๐๐๐,๐๐๐ for surgery alone. Niamh will also need follow-up scans in two weeks to monitor her progress and determine the next steps.
