HAPPY NATIONAL HERITAGE DAY
THE South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) wishes all educators, learners, workers and communities a meaningful and proudly South African National Heritage Day as we join the nation in celebrating the rich and diverse heritage that defines who we are as South Africans.
Our heritage is more than the traditions, languages, cultures and histories we inherit. It is also the values of solidarity, dignity, equality and collective responsibility that have shaped our journey as a people.
As educators and organised workers, we have a special responsibility to preserve our heritage while preparing future generations to build a more just, inclusive and democratic society. Our classrooms are spaces where young people learn not only about our history, but also about respect for diversity, human dignity and the importance of working together for the common good.
Let us use this day to honour those who came before us, celebrate the richness of our diversity, and recommit ourselves to building an education system that recognises and respects every learner’s cultural identity and heritage.
