Feed the Babies Fund

Feed the Babies Fund Providing Nutrition, Resources & ECD training to rural, unfunded ECD centres. We provide meals to over 9000 children on a daily basis.

Feed the Babies Fund has been addressing the issue of food security and specifically malnutrition, among orphans and vulnerable children since 1957, by providing fortified cereals to the most destitute and marginalised group in society; babies and children. Our service to our beneficiaries is essential and life changing. Feed the Babies Fund has been a voice for the poor and hungry for over 55 yea

rs. Today we support approximately 300 crèches in Kwazulu-Natal, providing cereal, foodstuffs and other resources, improving their administrative processes, training them in Early Childhood Development, basic hygiene and first aid, assisting them where possible in becoming self-sustaining and supporting them in registering their organisations with the Department of Social Development. In our support of crèches, Feed the Babies Fund focuses on child development with emphasis on nutrition, education, safety and hygiene; and secondly, through the Adopt-A-Crèche Project, we endeavour to improve the conditions of the crèches. Adopt-A-Crèche Project
Our Adopt-A-Crèche campaign is a project aimed at the renovation and maintenance of crèches and is a very popular initiative amongst local businesses, enabling them to get involved in enhancing the lives of children in the crèches.

Sibongile Groenink - Operations & Training Centre Manager, delivering her input on professionalising ECD Training in under-resourced ECD Centres. The Feed the Babies Fund provides accredited, skills-based Early Childhood Development (ECD) training to practitioners and caregivers from rural, under-resourced ECD Centres across KwaZulu-Natal. Our programme equips participants with practical teaching skills, child development knowledge, classroom management techniques, nutrition awareness, and compliance training to improve the quality of early learning environments.

Through professionalised training, ongoing mentorship, and hands-on support, practitioners gain confidence, formal qualifications, and improved employment opportunities. The outcomes include enhanced teaching standards, better-prepared ECD centres, improved school readiness for preschool children, and stronger, more sustainable communities where young children can thrive.
