Friday Brings Relief After Chilly Mornings in Durban.

By Mbatha Nontethelelo

After a week of cold mornings across Durban, residents are ending the work week on a more comfortable note this Friday.

As the city moves into the weekend, Friday continues to be seen as a welcome break and a chance to recharge before the start of a new week.

The warmer afternoon conditions have provided relief from the cold start to the day, with many residents opting for lighter clothing as Durban experiences a brief spell of milder winter weather.

Calls for Action as School Violence Claims Another Life.

By Mbatha Nontethelelo

Incidents of violent attacks among learners at South African schools continue to raise concern despite governments' ongoing efforts to improve safety.

Concerns over violence in South African schools have once again come under the spotlight following a fatal incident involving two Grade 10 learners at a school in Bellville, Cape Town. The Western Cape Education Department says the dispute was reportedly linked to the alleged theft of a cellphone.

Police have opened a murder investigation.

In the past year, KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli launched a School Safety Programme at the Archie Gumede Conference Centre in Durban, warning that schools were facing growing challenges linked to violence, bullying, theft, gang activity and substance abuse. Since January 2024, more than 2 300 incidents related to violence and other safety concerns were recorded at schools in the province.

Measures introduced included the training of learner ambassadors to promote safety, confidential reporting channels for learners, the installation of CCTV cameras at selected schools, and stronger partnerships between the Departments of Education, Community Safety and SAPS.

The latest incident has renewed calls for parents, educators, communities, and learners themselves to work together to ensure schools remain safe places for teaching and learning.

New homes bring relief to Gauteng and Durban families.

By Mbatha Nontethelelo

On 12 June 2026, more than 300 families in Gauteng moved into new houses at the Droogeheuwel Mega Project in Rand West. The project is part of a push to speed up housing for people who need it most.

This is a great step forward, and families in Durban are seeing also progress. In May, 113 flood victims received keys to new homes in Cornubia, north of Durban, after losing everything in the 2022 floods.

Many had spent years in temporary shelters. Now children have a safe place to study and families have a fresh start.

Officials plan more houses in both provinces to move families from emergency housing into permanent, dignified homes.

πŸŽ™οΈ ON THE GROUND IN PINETOWN: 5 Churches, 1 Kingdom, 1 Purpose! πŸ™Œ

As South Africa commemorates Youth Day, we remember the courage, sacrifice, and determination of the young people of 1976 who stood for a brighter future. Today, that same spirit of hope, leadership, and unity was on full display at Anderson Park in Pinetown.

Hosted by Dr N and Apostle M Madlala, HLC's Kingdom Minded Youth Family Day in collaboration with Highway Radio brought together five churches from across Durban in a powerful demonstration of faith, fellowship, and community.

The sports fields were alive with energy as young people with the older youth competed, connected, and built lasting friendships through ministry and sport. Families gathered in celebration, children enjoyed the jumping castles, and the atmosphere was filled with joy, laughter, and purpose.

Events like these remind us that the future of our communities lies in empowered, united, and purpose-driven youth in Christ. As Youth Day draws to a close, the message remains clear: when young people come together with a shared vision, there is no limit to what can be achieved. if God is for us who can be against us

Here's to raising a generation that leads with faith, serves with humility, and inspires positive change in Durban and beyond.

πŸ”₯ FIFA WORLD CUP CLASH OF THE AGES πŸ”₯

Football history has a habit of repeating itself, and tonight's showdown between France and Senegal brings back memories of one of the greatest World Cup upsets of all time.

Back in 2002, Senegal stunned the football world by defeating the reigning world champions France 1-0 in their very first FIFA World Cup match. The result announced Senegal's arrival on the global stage and remains one of the tournament's most iconic giant-killing moments.

Fast forward to 2026, and the two nations meet again on football's biggest stage. France arrive with a squad packed with world-class talent and championship pedigree, while Senegal carry the hopes of Africa and the belief that they can once again challenge one of the tournament favourites.

Will France gain revenge and begin their campaign in style, or can the Lions of Teranga create another chapter of World Cup history?

One thing is certain – this is a match no football fan can afford to miss.

South Africans Mark Youth Day Through Remembrance and Commemoration.

By Mbatha Nontethelelo

South Africans are commemorating Youth Day today, June 16, remembering the young people who stood up against apartheid during the 1976 Soweto Uprising.

The day symbolises courage, sacrifice, and the role young people played in shaping the country's democracy. While many of the freedoms enjoyed today are a result of those struggles, many young people continue to face challenges such as unemployment, poverty, and limited opportunities.

Across the country, some people are wearing school uniforms to honour the youth of 1976, while others are attending Youth Day events and gatherings.

Speaking to Highway Radio, Masethabe Nkosi says the day "serves as a reminder that we as the youth have a voice and whatever is happening in our country we can change it."

For many, the public holiday is a time to reflect on the past and consider the future of South Africa's youth.

Circulating Videos Raise Concerns Over Bribery Among Service Officers.

By Mbatha Nontethelelo

Authorities are once again under public scrutiny after multiple videos have circulated on social media, allegedly showing some service officers accepting bribes during the course of their duties.

While bribery allegations involving public service workers are not new, many incidents are believed to go unrecorded or are not formally reported. These situations are alleged to occur in different environments, including workplaces, licensing points, and other public service areas.

The circulation of these videos continues to raise questions as investigations are expected to follow confirmed reports. Members of the public are constantly urged to rely on official processes when reporting suspected corruption.
