PSG ARE SUPER CUP CHAMPIONS AGAIN!

Paris Saint-Germain have started the 2026/27 season with more silverware, defeating Aston Villa 2–1 in the 2026 UEFA Super Cup in Salzburg.

In the 20 minute of the game Khvicha Kvaratskhelia put PSG ahead with a brilliant finish and in the 45 minute Brian Madjo levelled for Villa, with the 17-year-old becoming the youngest scorer in UEFA Super Cup history. 61’ — Désiré Doué restored PSG’s lead after a VAR review confirmed the goal.

Villa gave PSG a serious test, showing plenty of energy and creating opportunities, but the Champions League holders showed their experience and defensive resilience when it mattered most.

Back-to-back UEFA Super Cups for PSG.
Another trophy for Luis Enrique.
Désiré Doué — the match winner.

PSG continue to build a remarkable run of European success, and this victory gives them another trophy to add to their growing collection.

Paris keep winning. The European champions have started the new season with a statement.

MNQGITHI DELIVERS! FIRST SILVERWARE IN TANZANIA!

What a way for Manqoba Mngqithi to begin his journey with Young Africans!

Yanga have beaten fellow South African coach Steve Barker's Simba SC 1–0 to retain the Tanzania Community Shield — giving Mngqithi his first piece of silverware abroad.

In the 31st minute of the game Albert Kangwanda scored a powerful header from Chadrack Boka's cross which gave Yanga the breakthrough they needed.

The match was a proper Kariakoo Derby battle — intense, tactical and closely contested. Simba started brightly and applied pressure in the opening stages, but Yanga grew into the game and Mngqithi's side became increasingly disciplined after taking the lead.

Simba pushed for an equaliser after the break, but Yanga's defensive organisation stood firm. Then, in the 89th minute, Djigui Diarra produced a crucial save to deny Simba and protect the trophy.

And the numbers tell part of the story: Simba went into half-time without a shot on target, while Yanga had taken control of the match after the opening goal.

This is also Yanga's third consecutive Community Shield triumph, and their 10th title in the competition, moving them level with Simba as the joint-most successful club.

Manqoba Mngqithi first trophy abroad is a statement and hopes to deliver the entire season.

THE HAKA HAS LANDED IN SOUTH AFRICA — AND THE SHARKS ARE NEXT!

The All Blacks opened their South African tour against the DHL Stormers last Friday at DHL Stadium, securing a 38–21 victory. The Stormers, however, made New Zealand work hard for it, with the All Blacks only pulling away late in the second half.

Now the challenge moves to Durban, where the Hollywoodbets Sharks welcome the All Blacks to Kings Park tonight at 9pm.

These clashes against our South African franchises are more than just exciting midweek rugby — they are part of New Zealand's preparation for the ultimate showdown: Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry.

COMMONWEALTH GAMES 2026: SOUTH AFRICA FLYING THE FLAG IN GLASGOW!

The 2026 Commonwealth Games are underway in Glasgow, Scotland, with athletes from across the Commonwealth competing for medals and national pride. The Games officially began on 23 July and will run until 2 August 2026, featuring 74 nations across a 10-sport programme.

And already, South Africa has made its presence felt!

SOUTH AFRICA MAKING AN EARLY IMPACT

South Africa has started strongly, with the country sitting among the leading nations on the medal table after the opening days. The latest standings show South Africa with 6 medals—2 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze.

One of the early highlights came in the pool, where Chad le Clos helped South Africa secure bronze in the men's 4x100m freestyle relay. The achievement was particularly significant for Le Clos, who claimed his 19th Commonwealth Games medal, making him the most decorated male athlete in Commonwealth Games history.

South Africa has also been competitive across a number of disciplines, including swimming, boxing, netball, bowls, cycling, athletics and the Para-sport events.

AFRICA MAKING ITS MARK

South Africa is not alone in carrying the African challenge. Nigeria has also enjoyed an impressive start, sitting near the top of the medal standings after the opening days, while other African nations continue to compete strongly across the different sporting codes.

The early medal race has once again demonstrated the depth of sporting talent across the Commonwealth, with African nations looking to challenge the traditional powerhouse countries.

THE WORLD'S SPORTING POWERHOUSES

At the top end of the medal race, Australia, England and Scotland have made strong starts, while Nigeria and South Africa have also positioned themselves among the early medal contenders. Australia, in particular, entered the Games as one of the countries expected to dominate, following its huge medal haul at the 2022 Birmingham Games.

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM SOUTH AFRICA?

For Team South Africa, the competition is far from over. With several days of competition still to come, there is plenty of opportunity to add to the medal tally.

The country will be looking particularly towards its strength in athletics, swimming, boxing, cycling, bowls and Para sport to deliver more medal success. The athletics programme, in particular, will be one to watch as the Games move towards their final stages.

For South African sports fans, the hope is that the early momentum can continue and that Team SA can finish the Games with a strong medal haul.

The message from Glasgow is clear: South Africa is here to compete!

The Games continue until 2 August, and with more medals still up for grabs, we could see Team SA climb even higher on the medal table.

From Glasgow to South Africa—let's get behind our athletes!

THE HEAVYWEIGHT KINGS ARE BACK!

The heavyweight division is heating up, and boxing fans have plenty to talk about!

Anthony Joshua returned to the ring on Saturday in Saudi Arabia, securing an impressive second-round stoppage victory over Kristian Prenga.

Joshua entered the fight with the experience of being a former two-time heavyweight champion, and he used that experience, along with his power and composure, to take control of the contest and bring it to an early conclusion. The victory gives AJ valuable momentum as he continues his journey towards another run at the top of the heavyweight division.

For Kristian Prenga, this was a major opportunity to share the ring with one of boxing's biggest names. While the early stoppage was a difficult result, stepping up against a fighter of Joshua's calibre is part of the challenge of competing at heavyweight level. Prenga will now look to learn from the experience and continue building his career.

It was a night that highlighted two different journeys in the heavyweight division—Joshua looking to reclaim his place among the elite, while Prenga continues his own path and gains valuable experience at the highest level.

And then there's the big question... 👀🥊

With Tyson Fury also back in action and victorious, speculation is once again growing around a potential blockbuster showdown between Joshua and Fury.

🔥 Could we finally see AJ vs The Gypsy King?

It's a fight boxing fans have been waiting to see for years, and if both men continue on their winning paths, the possibility of this massive British heavyweight clash could once again become a reality.

Anthony Joshua is back, Kristian Prenga continues the journey, and the heavyweight division is heating up!

THE KINGS OF KZN HAVE BEEN CROWNED!

The 2026 KZN Premier's Cup took place this weekend at Princess Magogo Stadium, bringing together some of KwaZulu-Natal's finest football talent for an exciting weekend of competitive football.

KwaZulu-Natal continues to be blessed with a strong football culture and a growing number of professional clubs. With Milford FC recently promoted to top-flight football, the province now boasts five KZN Betway Premiership clubs—AmaZulu FC, Golden Arrows, Durban City FC, Richards Bay FC and Milford FC—alongside Motsepe Championship side Midlands Wanderers.

Defending champions Richards Bay FC, affectionately known as the Natal Rich Boys, entered the tournament determined to defend their title with a youthful and promising squad. However, it was not to be this time, as a Zulu King took his rightful seat on the throne! 👑🔥

🏆 CHAMPIONS — AMAZULU FC! 🏆

AmaZulu FC were crowned the 2026 KZN Premier's Cup Champions after securing a comfortable 2–0 victory over Milford FC in the final.

Milford FC showed great character throughout the tournament, securing their place in the final after a hard-fought 2–1 victory over neighbours Richards Bay FC. However, they ultimately fell short against a strong AmaZulu side in the final.

The tournament provided an excellent opportunity for KZN's clubs to test themselves, build confidence and fine-tune their squads ahead of what promises to be another exciting season.

Last season, KZN's teams made their mark, with AmaZulu finishing 4th, Golden Arrows 6th and Durban City 8th. Their strong performances mean that these clubs will be competing in this season's MTN8, with hopes of bringing more silverware back to the province.

We also saw Durban City FC bring immense joy to KZN last season by lifting the Nedbank Cup—another sign of the province's growing strength and competitiveness in South African football. 🏆🔥

🌟 THE NEW SEASON IS ALMOST HERE! 🌟

The excitement doesn't stop there! The PSL Awards will take centre stage this coming week, celebrating the outstanding players, coaches and teams from the past season. The awards will provide a fitting build-up to the new football season, which kicks off this coming Saturday.

We also witnessed the 2026 Toyota Cup final, where Kaizer Chiefs defeated Zimbabwean side Scottland FC 1–0 at Royal Bafokeng Stadium, bringing the major pre-season fixtures to a close as Mzansi's football lovers prepare for the return of the beautiful game. ⚽🔥

As the people of KZN, we can be proud of the strength and quality of football in our province. With the Premier's Cup now decided, the PSL Awards on the horizon, and the 2026/27 season ready to begin, football fans across the country are eagerly anticipating another action-packed campaign.

With the performances we have witnessed from our KZN clubs, the quality of football on display and the preparation taking place, there is plenty of reason to be optimistic.

The new season is coming—and KZN is ready! 🔥⚽🏆

Congratulations to AmaZulu FC, the 2026 KZN Premier's Cup Champions! 💙💚

Here's to a successful season for all our KZN teams. May the silverware stay in the province! 🏆🔥⚽

Siyanqoba! KZN is football!
