Yesterday, on , CANSA proudly joined the community of Northdale, Pietermaritzburg, to commemorate the courage and resilience of the South African youth.

As part of the commemoration, we engaged young people and the community members in an important conversation about the health harms of to***co and ni****ne products. With the to***co and ni****ne industry increasingly targeting young people through appealing products and aggressive marketing tactics, it is more important than ever to empower our youth with knowledge and protect them from ni****ne addiction.

We also celebrated healthy living through soccer and volleyball tournaments, as well as indigenous games that brought together youth and community members in a spirit of unity, wellness, and fun. These activities reminded us that healthy lifestyle create stronger and more resilient communities.

On this We call on the South African government to urgently progress the To***co Control Bill. This life saving legislation will help protect our children from ni****ne addiction, shield them from predatory to***co industry practices and reduce burden of to***co related diseases.

Our youth deserve a future free from ni****ne addiction.

Did you know that June is Men's Health Awareness Month?

While many men make time for work, family, sport, and helping others, they often put their own health at the bottom of the priority list. Yet when it comes to cancer and many other health conditions, early detection can make all the difference.

This month, CANSA encourages men of all ages to take one simple but powerful step: make your health a priority.

✅ Know the warning signs of male cancers
✅ Perform monthly testicular self-examinations
✅ Schedule annual medical check-ups
✅ Ask your doctor about cancer screening relevant to your age, medical and family history
✅ Use CANSA's Online Lifestyle Risk Assessment Tool to evaluate your lifestyle: https://cansa.org.za/lra/

And for the women, partners, daughters, sisters and friends in our lives — your encouragement matters too. Sometimes a simple conversation or reminder can be the nudge that helps a man take charge of his health.

Cancer symptoms don't always appear until the disease has progressed, which is why regular screening and awareness are so important. Contact your local CANSA Care Centre to enquire about screening for prostate, colorectal or skin cancer, or ask about visits from our MANVan and Mobile Health Clinics if you live in a remote area.

CANSA also offers counselling and support services for cancer Survivors, including Tele and Virtual Counselling, as well as our Champions of Hope Facebook Group where Survivors can connect with others who understand their journey.

CANSA celebrates the resilience and courage of youth affected by cancer this Youth Day.

Diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2012 at the age of 15, Agrippa is currently studying a Bachelor of Environmental Health course with the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. He chose this course, to help combat environmental health hazards that could severely affect immuno-compromised people like he was when he was receiving cancer treatment and is grateful for the support he received from CANSA’s TLC staff… Read his story: https://cansa.org.za/agrippa-ngobeni-teen-cancer-survivor-studies-environmental-health-to-protect-immuno-compromised-patients/

Thando was diagnosed with cancer in 2020 – now 12 years old in 2026, and in remission, she encourages children and teens undergoing treatment to keep hope and stick to treatment… Read her story:

" A special thanks to Midlands Medical Centre - MMC - Private Hospital for helping CANSA PMB to raise a sum of R36 000.00! The team transformed a dark parking lot into a magical wonderland full of delicious treats and the smell of coffee. What a brilliant CUPPA for CANSA The Cancer Association of South Africa. We appreciate your support and dedication. Thank you! " Michelle Kunene.

On the 13th of June, we took a step closer to a healthier community 🌍
Our CANSA Community Health & Wellness event, held with Mpola Clinic in Thornwood, Marianhill, offered free screenings and meaningful discussions on multiple myeloma, prostate cancer, lung cancer, HIV, and the importance of psychosocial support.
Knowledge is power, and through awareness and early detection, we can change lives 💙
A heartfelt thank you to all our speakers, including representatives from Mpola Clinic, Tempudu, MLCCP, a brave multiple myeloma survivor, and a dedicated social worker supporting cancer patients, as well as everyone who participated in making this day impactful.
Special thanks to Aquellè for generously sponsoring water for the event—your support helped keep our community refreshed and cared for throughout the day. We truly appreciate your contribution to making this initiative a success!
