Five Years On and Still Going Strong!

Five years into offering our Abagility Access Programme, it continues to be one of the most popular and impactful activities at our centre.

In the video above, one of our Grade 2 learners is enjoying his lesson—an experience that remains one of the highlights of his week. Watching his confidence, enthusiasm, and skills grow with each session is truly inspiring.

Having joined Bright Eyes with no previous intervention, this young lad continues to blow us away with his determination, resilience, and commitment to succeeding. His progress is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when children are given the right support, encouragement, and opportunities to thrive.

We are incredibly proud of how far he has come and look forward to seeing all that he will achieve in the future.

A Surprise Delivery That Made Our Day!

It’s incredible when the doorbell rings with a surprise delivery of something that is going to enhance the learning experience of the visually impaired children who move through our centre.

We are slowly building the Braille Unit of our dreams, and we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Eva Saunders, all the way in Australia, for gifting us a Braille Doodle from our wishlist.

This wonderful addition to our Braille Unit has already brought the children so much joy and excitement. I had to laugh when one of our Grade 1 learners found a special hiding place for it in her classroom to ensure she could always find it whenever she wanted to draw!

Moments like these warm our hearts. They remind us that learning can be both accessible and fun, and that the right resources can spark creativity, independence, and confidence in our learners.

Thank you, Eva, for helping us create meaningful learning experiences and for being part of our journey. Your generosity is making a real difference. ❤️

🎥✨ Learning Together, Growing Together ✨🎥
This video beautifully captures two learners at very different stages of their Braille journey working side by side, supporting one another through the learning process.
Our Grade 1 learner is developing foundational Braille literacy skills using a Perkins Brailler, while our Grade 2 learner is progressing to contracted Braille using an Annie Braille device. Although they are at different levels, both are building confidence, independence, and a love for learning every day.
Moments like these remind us of the power of inclusive education and the importance of providing learners with the tools they need to reach their full potential.
We are incredibly grateful to our donors and supporters who make this possible. Your generosity helps us keep our centre well-resourced and enables us to provide the highest quality education and support to our little ones. Every Braille device, learning resource, and educational opportunity is made possible because of your belief in our mission.
Thank you for helping us create a future where every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. ❤️

📚✨ Exam Time at Bright Eyes ✨📚
Heads are down, Braille devices and textbooks are out as we support the children in our after-school programme through their Term 2 exams and assessments.
We are incredibly grateful to be able to provide a safe, comfortable, and nurturing environment where our learners can focus, grow, and reach their full potential. Watching their dedication and determination each day reminds us why our work is so important.
At The Bright Eyes Trust, we believe that hard work, perseverance, and commitment truly pay off. Our learners continue to inspire us with their resilience and positive attitudes, even during what can be a stressful and demanding time.
A very special thank you to Shelly, who never fails to show up for our learners. Your unwavering support, dedication, and willingness to help wherever needed make such a difference in the lives of the children we serve. We truly couldn't do this without you, and we are so grateful to have you as part of the Bright Eyes family. ❤️
To each and every one of our students: we are proud of you, we believe in you, and we wish you the very best as you navigate your exams and assessments. Keep working hard—the effort you put in today will help shape your success tomorrow.
🌟 Good luck, learners! You've got this! 🌟

🌟 A Proud Moment for The Bright Eyes Trust 🌟
On Wednesday, 3 June, three of our four trustees proudly stood alongside representatives from 110 other organisations as we received funding through the eThekwini Municipal Grant-in-Aid Fund.
It was an incredible honour to represent an organisation that means so much to us and to be recognised among so many deserving community initiatives. This funding will play an important role in helping us continue our work and expand our impact within the communities we serve.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone involved in the Grant-in-Aid programme. The entire team was professional, supportive, and a pleasure to work with throughout the process.
A special thank you goes to Tascha, who managed all the paperwork and administrative requirements with exceptional professionalism, dedication, patience, and attention to detail. Your hard work made this achievement possible.
We are excited about the opportunities this funding will create and look forward to making a meaningful difference through the work of The Bright Eyes Trust.

Many hands make days like these possible. From supporting our children and showcasing their talents, to putting up banners, arranging chairs, and handling all the behind-the-scenes details that often go unseen — every contribution mattered.

A heartfelt thank you to the incredible Bright Eyes team for all your hard work and dedication. And a special thank you to Country Bake for generously sponsoring the most delicious savouries for our guests to enjoy.

Dreams really do come true ✨

On Wednesday, 13 May 2026, our hearts overflowed with gratitude as we proudly cut the ribbon and received the keys to our brand new vehicle, generously sponsored by the South African Muslim Charitable Trust.

This unforgettable moment reminded us that through hard work, dedication, faith, and unwavering commitment — dreams really do come true. 💛

Not only were we blessed with a brand new Toyota Rumion, but these incredible donors also gifted us an interactive Annie Braille device — a life-changing tool that will help empower and uplift so many lives.

Moments like these do not happen every day. They remind us that kindness still exists, that communities can come together to create real change, and that hope has the power to move mountains.

To the South African Muslim Charitable Trust, thank you for believing in our vision and walking this journey with us. Your generosity will leave a lasting impact on countless lives for years to come.

Today, we celebrate more than just gifts… We celebrate opportunity. We celebrate growth. We celebrate dreams becoming reality. 🌟
