The National Operations Manager, Mr Kapesi Chakuwamba and Childline Eastern Cape Director Ms Okuhle Mdodana and staff Joined the Department of Social Development and various stakeholders for the closing ceremony of Child Protection Month in Ezibeleni, Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality, Eastern Cape, on 07 June 2026. The event was held under the theme “Working together in ending violence against children”. The Operations Manager gave a message of support on behalf of Childline South Africa. Mr Chakuwamba reiterated the call for 365 days plan of action in ending violence against children. He urged children, parents and stakeholders to utilise the Helpline 116 to report cases of abuse. Childline South Africa has a toll-free helpline 116 which operates 24 hours and 7 days a week. Mr Chakuwamba also commended Social Development for the build-up activities for child protection month, he urged government to continue investing in prevention and early intervention programmes. Childline South Africa also acknowledged government efforts to give platform to children during the month to have a voice and choice. This was evident during the various school dialogues conducted in Ezibeleni from the 26-28 May 2026 as part of the build-up activities. Mr Chakuwamba highlighted the importance of child participation and the consistent need to amplify the voices of children. The children were urged to stand up and be counted in the fight against abuse, neglect and exploitation. An emphasis was also made on the significant role of Childline South Africa in provision of ther**eutic interventions across the country. The stakeholders, parents and children were urged to utilise safe spaces to ensure children receive psycho-social support if they experience any form of abuse. Childline South Africa remains committed to work together with various stakeholders and ensure protection of children 365 days. These are the same words from Mr Ganief Hendricks, Deputy Minister of Social Development, during the Official Closing Ceremony, and launched a 365-Day Programme of Action because the safety, care and protection of our children cannot be confined to a single month. Child protection is a daily responsibility that requires all of us to act, every day of the year.
