In the beginning there was a ripple among the young people. This was religious enlightenment .This ripple became a wave. This wave eventually flooded the hearts of the young men of Springfield. It was the fervent request of these young people that led to the establishment of Saiva Sithantham in Springfield. The Branch was created in August 1954.It was opened by Sri Karunyananda Swamigal. owing to the

pressure of work at Headquarters he was recalled. The next Guru was Sri Swami Somanananthar. In 1957 Sri Somanananthar was transfered to a newly created branch at Umhlatuzana Township .His place was filled by Swami Nithiananda (The first Desciple of Guruswamigal). Under his leadership the Branch grew from strength to strength.Mr M Murugan was the President, Mr K Ravanananthan was the Secretary and Mr K.L Padayachee the Treasurer. The members took a keen interest in performing cottage services.Services were also held in the homes of the sick. To spread the appreciation for Saivism, vernacular classes were resumed. For this task Mr Ravanananthan and Mr k.L Padayachee have to be highly commended for their voluntary sacrifice.Full credit is also due to Mr Francis Nair for his unceasing operation toward the variuos activities of the Branch. May God inexhaustible energy and blessings to futher the progress of the Branch

Saiva Sithantha Sungum Springfield Branch Revival

The Saiva Sithantha Sungum Springfield Branch Revival was a youth initiative by Santhieran Marimuthu, Vishantham Naidoo and Myurie Naidoo who saw a dire need for spritual upliftment within the community. After serious deliberation they approached Guru Kogie Soobramoney who is the daughter of the late Swami Nithianantha (The first disciple of HH Brahma Sri Siva Soobramoniar Guruswamigal) to conduct service and Mrs Pushpa Marimuthu to serve as Deputy Guru. Mr Trevor Naidoo was asked to play harmonium. All were ever willing to assist. The late Mr Captain Marimuthu served as a mentor to the young committee to guide them on aspects like meeting procedure and upholding the constitution of the Saiva Sithantha Sungum. The first Sunday Service was held on 09 November 2008. Mrs Meenatchie Moodley and family join soon after and the branch grew in leaps and bounds from there on. The first commitee comprised of:

Mrs Kogie Soobramoney - Guru
Mrs Pushpa Marimuthu - Deputy Guru
Mr Santhieran Marimuthu - Chairman
Miss Vishantham Naidoo - Secretary
Miss Myurie Naidoo - Treasurer

The Guru and Deputy lead the music group. Many memorial and cottage services were held in the Springfield area to propagate the teachings of our Spiritual Master HH Brahma Sri Siva Soobramoniar Guruswamigal. We also saw the need to offer the community a simple non ritualistic for of worship. Many charity and fund raising projects were held to create awareness and serve the community. Our largest annual event the Womens Day Function which is held in August(The Month of Women)
