This weekend reminded us exactly why Journey of Hope Baby Home exists.
Our weekend started off as it normally does winding down, family braai and plans for a little rest before the busy week ahead.
Then the phone rang.
"We'll be there in an hour. We have 2 babies that need emergency placement just for the weekend."
Within moments, everything changed.
The quiet weekend we had planned was replaced with hurried preparations, making up cots, warming bottles and opening our hearts once again. What began with 2 little ones quickly became 3 precious children needing a safe place to land a tiny 2 week-old newborn, a sweet 4 month-old baby and a busy 2 year-old toddler.
In an instant, our home grew from 5 girls to 8 girls.
What followed was a whirlwind of feeds, nappy changes, rocking babies to sleep, wiping away tears, endless loads of washing and very little sleep. There were moments of chaos, moments of exhaustion and moments when we wondered how we would get through the next hour.
But there were also tiny fingers wrapped around ours, sleepy cuddles, little giggles and the incredible privilege of knowing that, for now, these children are safe.
Crisis care for children is not always planned. It doesn't arrive when it is convenient. It doesn't wait until there is enough energy, enough space or enough resources. It arrives in moments of uncertainty when vulnerable children need somewhere safe to go.
At Journey of Hope Baby Home, we say yes because every child deserves to be loved, protected and cared for, no matter how unexpected their arrival may be.
This weekend was a beautiful reminder that our home is not built on routines or schedules. It is built on hope. Hope for children. Hope for families. Hope that even in the hardest circumstances, love can make a difference.
To everyone who walks this journey alongside us through your prayers, donations, encouragement and support thank you. Because of you, when that phone call comes, we can open our doors and say, "Bring them. We'll make a plan."
Because every child who walks through our doors deserves a journey filled with hope. β€οΈ
