If you don't, it's time to get proactive.

✋️Don't wait for a crisis to hit. While we always hope and pray that it doesn't happen, it's best to be prepared just in case you or someone you know faces the unthinkable.

ℹ️In South Africa you can report and get psychosocial help from the Film and Publication Board.

HERE'S HOW:

"The Child Protection team’s work is guided by the mandate of the Film and Publication Board which is ensure that children are not exposed to adult content/ age-inappropriate content prematurely and that the use of and exposure of children to child po*******hy be punishable by law.

The Film and Publication Board, as part of the intervention to curb the creation, distribution and possession of child po*******hy has:

☎️A HOTLINE, 0800 000 555, dedicated to allowing the public an opportunity to report any suspected Child Sexual Abuse Material they come across.
✅️The Hotline is also dedicated to providing telephonic psychosocial support.

🚩The Child Protection Team works closely with Online Monitors to ensure that calls and report received through the hotline website are attended to timeously.

In order to see that Child Sexual Abuse Material is dealt with across the board, the FPB forms part of INHOPE - International Association of Internet Hotlines. INHOPE affords hotlines across the world the opportunity to report CSAM worldwide in order to ensure that such content is taken down and/or reported to law enforcement across the world (through INTERPOL).

The Film and Publication Board Child Protection Team is, in their work, guided by the following South African legislature:

The Film and Publication Act no.65 of 1996
The Children’s Act no.38 of 2005
The Sexual Offences and Other Related Matters Act of 2007

We thank the Grosvenor Girls' High School - Bluff, Durban for the opportunity to engage with the student body on key safety issues affecting their wellbeing.

Together with the Brighton Beach Social Crime Prevention team we highlighted ways to improve digital citizenship, online and IRL safety strategies, and addressed the harms and legal consequences of both bullying and cyberbullying.

🩵Our girls and young women need to grow up in environments where they are protected and supported.

ℹ️Part of this is preparing them with the skills and knowledge to deal with the challenges that they face both in real life and online. Another aspect is parents and caregivers who take their role seriously, making the hard choices and setting boundaries.

😢Remember, perpetrators aren't only strangers, they unfortunately can be family, respected community members and friends.
Perpetrators of abuse and exploitation are most often masters of manipulation who can easily blend into a child's life, and capitalize on the power imbalance between children and adults.

🤫The perpetrator's intentions may be hidden at first and then make subtle intrusion into the child's life through the grooming process before escalating into perpetrating crimes against the child.

Remember:
- Question the motives of adults forming friendships with your child/or who single them out with attention
- Beware of allowing sleepovers
- Listen to your gut feeling around people
It's not about being paranoid or fearful, it's about being prepared to safeguard your child.

Crimes against children are very often so cruel and heinous that innocent minds find the acts literally unbelievable.
It may also be a shock to hear who the alleged perpetrator is.
It is not the child's fault that the scenario leaves the hearer incredulous.
But it is the hearer's responsibility to act on a disclosure and to report it.

Believe a child. Support a child.

What a privilege to be invited into the Buffelsdraai community in the Verulam area!

This was a first for our team, and we thank YAHWEH ministries for the invitation to speak at the youth conference.

Our team spoke on how children become vulnerable to exploitation and human trafficking. We also highlighted safety strategies to reduce their risk of becoming victims by making good choices and avoiding certain behaviours which may make them more vulnerable to recruiters.
