UKZN Solar Car A team from the Mechanical Engineering department of UKZN committed to showcasing efficient vehicle design using renewable solar energy.

A page for anyone who would like to follow the designing, construction and racing of our solar cars. In 2012, Apalis was entered into the South African Solar Car Challenge. The grueling 5400 km race around South Africa put Apalis to the ultimate test. However Apalis was up for the challenge, finishing second in the Challenge Class. Now work has begun on iKlwa, a new generation solar car with four

wheels, to compete in the Olympia Class of the 2014 South African Solar Car Challenge. The objective is to design and build a more efficient vehicle that builds on the success of Apalis. We are confident that we will be able to finish top of our class this year! Thank you to Hulamin, our main sponsor, for making this project possible.
