Soroptimist International Durban

Soroptimist International Durban SI Durban is a vibrant, dynamic organisation for today’s professional women. Soroptimist is perhaps best interpreted as 'the best for women'.

We inspire action and create opportunities to transform the lives of women and girls through a global network of members and international partnerships. The name Soroptimist was coined from the Latin soror meaning sister, and optima meaning best. From the founding of the first Soroptimist club in Oakland, California, in 1921, through to the present day where over 3000 clubs are flourishing through

out the world, Soroptimists have continued to strive to achieve 'the best for women' in every sphere of their lives.

We, at Soroptimist International Durban, were privileged to have our President, Avasha Singh , engage with incredible women of Soroptimist Indian Rock.

What stood out most was the powerful alignment in our missions and the genuine spirit of sisterhood.

Moments like these remind us that when women come together with intention, the impact reaches far beyond borders.

Looking forward to growing this connection into a lasting partnership that continues to uplift and empower women everywhere. 💖✨️

On Saturday, 7 March, SI Durban met for a team‑build, and we wore purple as a quiet promise: to turn rights into justice and words into action.
President Avasha Singh reminded us that sisterhood is the strength behind every promise we make to uplift women and girls, and we felt it as we gathered for reflection and painted our “Mandala of Sisterhood."

We honor women and girls everywhere not just today, but every day - by mentoring, listening, and building spaces where they can lead and thrive. That’s our spirit in motion.

Happy International Women’s Day to all women claiming their power and rewriting what’s possible. 💜

🟠🌍 From 25 November to 10 December, Soroptimist International of Europe is calling on everyone to of Cyberviolence.

For the second year in a row, we are shining a light on a growing and urgent issue: cyberviolence against women. The violence women face offline doesn’t stop at the screen. It continues through online harassment, doxxing, deep fakes, and threats. Cyberviolence is real violence.

This year’s campaign will help you:
• Recognise the signs of cyberviolence
• Stay cyber safe
• Know what to do if cyberviolence happens
• Start conversations with family, colleagues, and children

Over the next 16 days, we’ll share practical tools and guidance to help make digital spaces safer for all women and girls.

Share this post to raise awareness. Together, we can make online spaces safer for everyone.

Held yesterday and chaired by President Avasha Singh, we were thrilled to welcome Kuda Chigumira, President of SI Vabatsiri, Zimbabwe, who joined us virtually. 🤝

We are excited to explore potential collaboration opportunities to finalize a friendship link and foster a spirit of sisterhood between our clubs. 🙏

World Mental Health Day takes place every year on 10 October. It’s a reminder of the importance of good mental health and the need to prioritise and invest in good mental health.
