The Centre for Social Entrepreneurship is a business incubator that was established at the Durban University of Technology to assist people who want to start their own business. The primary purpose of the establishment of the CSE is to address key socio-economic challenges such as high levels of unemployment, inequality and poverty in KwaZulu-Natal. Vision

In celebration of Youth Month, the Centre for Social Entrepreneurship is proud to host young entrepreneurs from Durban and surrounding areas for an intensive four-day Youth Entrepreneurship Bootcamp.

Over the next four days, participants will be taken through key business fundamentals, entrepreneurship principles, and financial literacy using the Launch League UK curriculum. These sessions are designed to equip young entrepreneurs with the practical skills and knowledge needed to put their businesses first and build sustainable ventures.

The learning experience is further strengthened through entrepreneurial toolkits empowered by Viridian and the UK-South Africa Tech Hub Launch League, providing participants with world-class resources to support their entrepreneurial journeys.
We are excited to invest in the next generation of innovators and look forward to seeing these young entrepreneurs turn their ideas into thriving businesses.

From a small garage in Umbumbulu with just 50 chickens to producing approximately 2,000 broilers per production cycle, Nosipho Ntuli is proving that determination, resilience, and hard work can transform a simple idea into a thriving enterprise.

As the founder of Honeylog Farm, Nosipho established her poultry farming business as a way to overcome unemployment and create a sustainable source of income. Today, Honeylog supplies quality broiler chickens as both live birds and frozen products while also offering training on broiler production.

Over the past three years, the business has grown significantly, creating employment opportunities for 3 full-time and 4 part-time employees and contributing to local economic development in Umbumbulu.

Yesterday, the Centre for Social Entrepreneurship hosted a focused and highly engaging Design Thinking for Businesses workshop for our SMME cohort.

The session was facilitated by Ms. Brightness Nyawose, Business Development Officer, whose depth of knowledge and thoughtful approach created the ideal environment for meaningful learning and collaboration.

Entrepreneurs were taken through the five-stage Design Thinking Process, from developing empathy with their customers, to defining core challenges, ideating solutions, building prototypes, and testing their concepts with confidence.

Our SMMEs engaged seriously with real business challenges, interrogating their assumptions and emerging with sharper, more human-centred perspectives on growth and scale.
