The Centre for Social Entrepreneurship is a business incubator that was established at the Durban University of Technology to assist people who want to start their own business. The Ithala Development Finance Corporation (IDFC) SMME Incubation Programme with entrepreneurs from uMgungundlovu has successfully concluded, marking an important milestone in the journey of these emerging businesses.

Centre for Social Entrepreneurship Director Mr Solomon Nyamurima was among the facilitators contributing to the entrepreneursโ€™ development, delivering practical training on Business Plan Development. The session focused on equipping entrepreneurs with the knowledge and tools needed to develop stronger business plans and build sustainable businesses.

We congratulate all participating entrepreneurs on reaching this important milestone and extend our appreciation to Ithala Development Finance Corporation, for their contributions towards building stronger and more sustainable SMMEs.

The Centre has officially kicked off its Nails Empowerment Training Programme, welcoming women who will be equipped with practical skills to become professional nail technicians and take the first step towards starting their own businesses.

The programme goes beyond technical training, with participants also receiving support with business registration and business management, helping them turn their newly acquired skills into sustainable entrepreneurial opportunities.

As we celebrate Womenโ€™s Month, we are investing in women by building skills, creating opportunities and supporting women to become entrepreneurs. โœจ

CSERI, in collaboration with the ABSA team, hosted a Funding Readiness Workshop aimed at equipping entrepreneurs with the knowledge and tools needed to strengthen their businesses and improve their readiness for funding opportunities.

The session focused on key areas including holistic ABSA solutions, the importance of separating business and personal finances, payment solutions available to support small businesses, and the challenges SMMEs face when accessing finance and markets. The ABSA team also shared valuable information on funding opportunities that entrepreneurs can tap into and apply for to support their business growth.

Entrepreneurs were further encouraged to implement proper financial systems, use effective business management tools, and develop succession plans to ensure long-term sustainability.

The Centre in collaboration with the Imbali Education and Innovation Precinct (IEIP), hosted a Digital Marketing Training for MSMEs at the Indumiso Campus.

The IEIP is a ministerial project piloting an alternative model of education delivery, bringing together an interconnected network of institutions including universities of technology, TVET colleges, and private institutions to expand access and innovation in the education space.

The training was facilitated by CSERI's Marketing and Communications Officer, Ms Snelisiwe Hlongwane, and equipped entrepreneurs with practical digital marketing skills to help their businesses adapt and grow. Entrepreneurs explored key focus areas, including understanding their market, building a strong and consistent brand, understanding social media marketing.

Sessions like these continue to strengthen CSERI's commitment to empowering entrepreneurs with the digital tools and knowledge needed to thrive in an ever-evolving business landscape.

Meet Kholeka Ndlovu , the passionate founder of Imama Land Farming Pty Ltd, an integrated agricultural business proudly based in Umlazi, Durban, with farming operations in Umzumbe and Umbumbulu. With over five years of experience, Kholeka is transforming the agricultural landscape by producing quality livestock, fresh vegetables, and supplying premium meat to local communities.

As part of the DUT Centre for Social Entrepreneurship Rapid Incubator (CSERI) Incubation Programme, Kholeka has strengthened her business through trainings, and practical business development support.

Today, Imama land farming employs 6 full-time and 15 part-time employees while supplying cattle, goats, chickens, fresh vegetables, and quality beef, chicken, pork, and lamb through its two fully operational butcheries.

Looking ahead, Kholeka's vision is to build a fully integrated agribusiness, expand across South Africa, enter export markets, and contribute to food security, job creation, and sustainable agricultural development.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Kholeka's advice to aspiring entrepreneurs: "Start where you are and grow consistently. Focus on building systems, not just working hard. Diversify your business, build strong networks, and remain patient and resilient through every challenge."
