On December 5th, 2025, we had the honour of being invited to attend a heartwarming graduation ceremony for early childhood development, celebrating two incredible centres (Little Kingdom and Mamatheka Creches)! 🎓✨ Witnessing these little stars reach such important milestones alongside their dedicated teachers and parents was truly unforgettable.

As part of our commitment to fostering a love of reading, we were delighted to donate books generously provided by our partner, The Angel Network Durban. 📚❤️ Over 40 children left with their very own books, taking home the gift of literacy and imagination.

Together, we're nurturing brighter futures—one page at a time!

Today, Friday, 21 November 2025, South African women united to silence the nation in a powerful stand against gender-based violence. The Village Seed, alongside other dedicated non-profit organisations in Durban and Pietermaritzburg, joined forces with our partner Embrace, the Movement for Mothers to observe 15 minutes of silence. During this time, women refrained from all paid and unpaid work—in workplaces, homes, and communities—to highlight the profound economic and social impact of their absence.

This collective pause sends a resounding message: South Africa must stop burying a woman every 2.5 hours. Together, we are raising awareness, demanding change, and honouring those whose voices have been tragically silenced.
Let us continue working hand in hand to build a safer, more equitable future for all.

On this World Children's Day, The Village Seed stands united in shining a light on the urgent challenges faced by South Africa’s youngest and most vulnerable—children aged 0 to 6 in rural and under-resourced communities. Early childhood is a critical period for growth and development; yet, too many young children are deprived of access to quality early education, safe spaces to learn and play, nutritious meals, and even clean, reliable water. These foundational needs are essential not only for their physical health but also for their cognitive and emotional well-being. As we celebrate the potential and promise of every child, we urge communities, leaders, and partners to join us in ensuring that all children, regardless of their location, have the opportunity to thrive and flourish.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to our amazing partner Nal'ibali for a fabulous time at Booknic this past Saturday. 🌟

Sibongiseni Blose ensured that the magical reading picnic was absolutely captivating and inspiring to parents, teachers, and children. The facilitator’s engaging storytelling—with lively words, actions, and questions—kept everyone eagerly wanting more. We can truly say that today, we planted the seed of a vibrant reading culture. 📚

Parents asked thoughtful questions, shared insights, and left feeling genuinely inspired. With partnerships like this, we’re confident that rural ECD (Early Childhood Development) is on the path to boosting literacy rates nationwide.

Here’s to nurturing young minds and growing a love of reading together! 📖❤️

On this , The Village Seed stands united in addressing South Africa’s urgent literacy crisis. Shockingly, over 80% of Grade 4 learners cannot read for meaning in their home language, a barrier that limits their potential and future opportunities—especially for children in disadvantaged rural and semi-urban communities where access to libraries and a culture of reading are virtually nonexistent.

We believe every child deserves the chance to unlock the power of literacy. That’s why we are committed to distributing books to early childhood centres and primary schools in the areas we serve. But we need your support.

We are calling for donations of grades R–7 books in both isiZulu and English to help nurture a love of reading and learning.

Together, we can plant the seeds of knowledge and hope for a brighter future.

🌸 Spring has sprung in the southern hemisphere! On this vibrant 1st of September, The Village Seed team—Ruth, Langa, Thabile Cele—alongside Sibongiseni Blose from our partner Nal'ibali, hit the ground running, visiting five primary schools south of Durban: Danganya, Dlambula, Amandawe, Eshonkweni, and Amacebo. 📚

Our mission? Conduct needs assessments to prepare for exciting workshops promoting reading in schools as we kick off Literacy Month! We were warmly welcomed, and the passionate teachers shared their ongoing reading initiatives with tremendous enthusiasm.

Together, we emphasized the importance of identifying, training, and registering reading clubs. We all agree: fostering reading for enjoyment in the foundation phase is essential to boost comprehension, ignite imagination, and nurture critical thinking skills in our children.

Here’s to planting the seeds of a brighter, more literate future!
