It’s June and the start of our season! We’d love for as many fairies to join in. Pop a Pride sticker on a book, maybe add a little rainbow ribbon, and hide it for a lucky finder 🌈

Another great way to celebrate is to share a pic of one of your favourite Pride related books, and maybe do a post!

This coming Thursday is World Book Night and The Book Fairies are celebrating this initiative, encouraging the act of reading in our busy day-to-day lives! While it’s usually aimed at the UK, we think that everyone around the world deserves to celebrate and take some time out of their day on Shakespeare’s birthday 💚

What is World Book Night?

From 7pm to 8pm GMT this Thursday, people plan to dedicate their time to reading, sharing their activity under the hashtag . This can happen in many different ways, whether you’re reading alone, hosting a book club meeting, listening to an audiobook on the train, or reading to your children at
bedtime. Just get reading! Many around the world celebrate World Book Day also on the 23rd of April 📚

How can I prepare?

Share the news with family and friends, let them know that, for one hour, there may be a little quiet between telephones as you snuggle up with a book. You can
also choose your book ahead of time, and get excited about entering a new world, for however long you’d like!

As April 23rd is a certain Bard’s birthday, maybe pick up a play of his you’ve not read yet, or a collection of sonnets. The choice is yours!

We encourage you to take some time out of your evening to unwind and prioritise your TBR, whether it be for the full hour, or five minutes, show your bookshelf
some love!

Today the are sharing a green book recommendation: The Slow Traveller: An intentional path to mindful adventures by Jo Tinsley.

We will be sharing book recommendations throughout the month and we would love to hear your green book recommendations in the comments!

About the book: Discover the secrets to more authentic, meaningful and sustainable travel with this inspirational guide brimming with evocative photographic naturescapes and sage advice.

The Slow Traveller is a stunning call to change the way we travel today. Veteran slow traveller Jo Tinsley of Ernest magazine invites you to embrace curiosity, make enduring connections with people and places and traverse your inner world by adopting the mindset of slow travel.

Tinsley leads your way by detailing her own experiences of traveling lightly, gently and adventurously – from following to its end a meandering road lined by deep, narrow fjords in the remotest part of Iceland to kayaking around Discovery Islands in British Columbia, encountering seals, moon jellies and a bald eagle, to sunbathing in the green oasis of Assistens Cemetery in Copenhagen’s culturally diverse and creative Norrebro district.

Each chapter focuses on an element of the slow travel mindset as well as a mode of travelling, type of destination or experience.

Stroll through the book at your own pace as you learn how to reconnect with a sense of wonder and enchantment in the world, and yourself.

Today the are talking about gardens, specifically the importance of biodiversity in your garden!🪴🌳🌾

Biodiversity helps regulate our climate and provides a healthy ecosystem by providing for our pollinators as well as other insects and organisms that are essential for a well balanced and thriving ecosystem. Plus little herbivores like bunnies will thrive and be happy to call your garden home!

The perfectly manicured lawn has long been held
up as the standard to thrive for, but consider the environmental coast of keeping a perfect lawn! From the water use, to the CO2 from the lawn mower to all the fertilizers and pesticides needed to keep that grass pristine and without “weeds” that are toxic, and we willingly spread in the areas our kids and pets play despite the warning labels on the packaging!!

A lot of townships or homeowner associations have strict rules about lawn maintenance which force homeowners to keep a certain appearance. If you live in one of these areas there are still options from simply skipping the fertilizer and pesticides to switching out grass for things like clover or planting flowers gardens that aline with your HOA guidelines.

Only have a balcony? Why not try a few potted plants, especially ones that are local to your area that your local bees will love! You can also find some lovely railing planters that are perfect for adding a little green to your outdoor space!

Today the are sharing some of our favourite plant based cookbooks.

The meat industry has a significant impact on our planet with livestock production accounting for 18 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, including 9 percent of carbon dioxide and 37 percent of methane gas emissions worldwide, according to the Livestock, Environment and Development (LEAD) Initiative.

Cutting or reducing meat from your diet will have a profound impact on your carbon footprint, but reducing meat doesn’t have to mean boring meals or a lack of protein, check out some of these cookbooks to find your new favourite meatless meals!!
