PeacePlayers South Africa PeacePlayers International is an international non-profit that uses sport to unite, educate and inspire young people in divided communities.

Almost 30 years after the end of Apartheid, a system of institutional racial segregation instituted by the white minority, South Africa still feels its effects: Racial divides, tensions and inequities limit resources and opportunities for the majority of citizens, leading to resentment, anger and even violence. Inequity and lack of opportunities are also rooted in other challenges, such as gender-based violence, HIV/AIDS and teenage pregnancy. PeacePlayers South Africa (PP-SA) was established in 2001 to offer vital athletic, educational and social opportunities to South Africa’s youth. PP-SA unites youth from diverse and divided communities, through sustained sports-based programming led by committed local coaches and grounded in leadership development and conflict transformation.

As we wrap up our programming year at PeacePlayers South Africa it’s time for a first review of 2026. 🏀

It’s been a year filled with growth, connection, learning and plenty of moments that reminded us why we do what we do.
From sessions on the court to lifeskills off it, our participants and coaches have continued to learn, grow and create meaningful connections through the power of sport.

Now, it’s time to take a closer look at the numbers. 📊

Teaching kids lifeskills is a core element of our Peace Players‘ Programm.

From seeing people as people to building a culture of collaboration, our players share the lifeskills sessions that have made an impact on them.
Together with inside-outside-transformation these core values set the base for our entire programm and how we want to incorporate change through sports.

On Friday 18.09. a selected Peace Players Boys All Star Team made their way to Kearsney College in Hillcrest accompanied by coaches and area coordinators.
From Friday to Monday our boys participated in the Kearsney Independent School Stayers Basketball Tournament (ISSBT).
This 14 Team private school tournament was split into two pools - our PPSA team being placed in Pool B - with the top two teams of each pool progressing to the semifinals.

After a good start on Friday and our first win against St. Alban‘s College we faced a though opponent with St. Benedict‘s in the first Saturday game resulting in our first and only loss.
After that upset our boys went on a winning streak beating Sahethi, Clifton and St. John‘s on Saturday and Michaelhouse on Sunday with stunning performances.
However, luck was not on our side and we did not make it among the top two of our pool even with only the loss to St. Benedict‘s who went on to win the tournament.
Finishing third in Pool B we were to face fourth place of Pool A - Hilton College - and our boys stayed sharp to take that win home as well.
In the end stood a 6th place for our PPSA boys which we are proud of.

Thanks to for hosting this wonderful tournament and having us, congratulations to and a big shoutout to our team of players and coaches who did a great job. 💪

Most importantly a speedy recovery for Khanyisani who injured his arm in the last Saturday game. 🙏

We are devastated. Women and children deserve to LIVE & feel safe. Period.

On our courts, girls learn to take up space. To jump higher. To shoot even when someone is trying to block them. But that courage shouldn't end when they leave the court.

In South Africa, GBV is stealing that safety every day. We are saying STOP.

At PPSA, we coach girls to be leaders, not victims. We create a safe space where they are seen and protected. But we need the whole community to defend that safety off the court too.

Her life matters. Her safety matters. Her future matters.

We call on our government to action in ending this pandemic. Statements are not enough. We need to feel safe.

On Saturday, the 29th of August, we wrapped up Women’s Month with over 200 girls and coaches joining us at Danville Park Girls High School to celebrate our 8th Annual Girls Basketball Festival.

Big thanks the Danville Park Girls High School for hosting the even, our partners and donors for making this possible, the panelist’s for an interesting talk to inspire girls, all our staff, coaches, parents, volunteers and players for a great day packed with fun!

We are excited and you should be too!

Tomorrow on Saturday, the 29th of August over 200 girls and Coaches will be wrapping up the Women’s Month the only way we know how to at the 8th Annual Girls Basketball Festival, at Danville Park Girls High School from 07:00-16:00.

PeacePlayers Girls High School Teams from Umlazi, Lamontville, Wentworth, Scottsburg, Molweni and Verulem, will will host girls teams from the schools that are friends of our programmes, .green.white
