💙 6 Years of Serving with Compassion 💙
In April 2020, during one of the most uncertain times in our country's history, Acara Crisis Relief NPC was born. What started as an emergency response to assist 50 families during the COVID-19 lockdown has grown into a lifeline for more than 120 households within our community.
For the past six years, we have walked alongside elderly pensioners trying to stretch their grants from month to month, persons with disabilities, struggling families, unemployed individuals, and many others facing hardship. Through food relief, bread distributions, emergency assistance, school support, and countless acts of kindness, we have done our best to ensure that no one feels forgotten.
But the reality is that the journey has become increasingly difficult.
While the need for assistance continues to grow, sponsorships and donations have steadily declined over the years. There are days when we struggle to fund even the smallest initiative. Something as simple as providing bread to families, covering transport costs to collect donations, or assisting a household in crisis has become a challenge.
The truth is, we cannot simply stop now. Over the years, many vulnerable families have come to rely on the support we provide. Not because they want to depend on charity, but because life has left them with few alternatives. Many of those we assist are elderly men and women in their 60s, 70s, and even 80s, living from pension day to pension day. Others are persons with disabilities or individuals facing circumstances beyond their control.
How do we tell an elderly pensioner to become self-sufficient when age and health no longer allow them to work? How do we ask someone in their later years to clean gardens, do manual labour, or collect scrap metal just to put food on the table? These are people who have worked hard throughout their lives and now deserve dignity, compassion, and support.
Every week, the requests for help continue. Every week, there is another family facing hunger, another elderly person living alone, another household struggling to make ends meet. Many people see the distributions and outreach programmes, but they do not always see the difficult reality behind the scenes—the constant worry of whether there will be enough resources to continue helping those who depend on us.
Yet we continue because we have seen firsthand the difference that a loaf of bread, a warm meal, or a small act of kindness can make in someone's life. We continue because turning our backs on those in need is simply not an option.
To every sponsor, donor, volunteer, and supporter who has stood with us over the past six years, thank you. Your generosity has helped us bring hope where there was despair, dignity where there was hardship, and comfort to those who felt forgotten.
Today, we humbly ask you to continue standing with us. Whether through a donation, sponsorship, sharing our appeals, or simply spreading awareness of our work, every contribution makes a difference.
Together, we can ensure that no one in our community is left behind.
With gratitude and hope,
