Good news - teams are working around the clock to get us restored.

If all goes well, we should be back on within the next 4 hours.

The team has made a plan to re-route supply. Crossing fingers and hoping all goes well for us. 🀞

Plumbing Contractor Dispute

Dear Residents of Ward 65

Please be advised of a critical situation affecting water services across the metro.

Due to an ongoing payment dispute with the municipality, contracted plumbers have downed tools. This is a continuation of the work stoppage that started on Friday.

Contract plumbers have now _BLOCKADED all Metro Water depots._

This means:
πŸ”΄ _Zero municipal plumbing operations_ are taking place today
πŸ”΄ No leak repairs
πŸ”΄ No water outage restorations
πŸ”΄ No scheduled plumbing maintenance

CURRENT STATUS:

- Metro Water Depots: BLOCKADED - No vehicle dispatch or materials
- Field Repairs: _DOWNED TOOLS_ - No teams attending to bursts/leaks
- Ward Oversight: _ACTIVE MONITORING_ - I am in direct contact with municipal management

I am closely monitoring the standoff and will keep you posted as soon as depots are reopened and dispatch resumes.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in eThekwini is deeply alarmed by the absolute silence and failure to act by eThekwini’s EXECUTIVE COALITION LEADERSHIP, of the Anc/IFP /NFP and EFF, as critical water depots faced operational lock downs, again today, due to escalating contract disputes amidst allegations of non-payment.

Despite our immediate escalations, direct to Exco, no response whatsoever has been forthcoming from Mayor Cyril Xaba, the City Manager MUSA MBHELE, or the Head of Trading SERVICES, EDNICK MSWELI.

While residents endure dry taps and massive unaddressed burst pipes, the municipality IS AGAIN completely missing in action.

The escalating crisis has severely compromised an already strained local service delivery since January this year...

The backlog of water leaks and bursts is alleged to be over 13000

The independent polling published by SABI Strategy Group in News24 yesterday which proved beyond doubt that the race to lead eThekwini is narrowed down to the DA and uMkhonto WeSizwe Party (MKP).

What the polling shows is that the DA is now the only party big enough to stop an MK Mayor in eThekwini which would be disastrous for the city and its residents which have suffered so much already. Find polling stats attached here: Polling

The polling also shows that no other party will be big enough to challenge the MKP to make a meaningful difference. This is because the only party that qualifies and can be considered to elect the mayor has to be on the Executive Committee.

In essence, every vote for a small party will only embolden the MKP when the race is so narrow between the DA and them.

The DA is ready to elect Haniff Hoosen as the next Mayor of eThekwini and keep the MKP at bay. Hoosen is ready to get the city working for all and solve the water and sewage crisis once and for all. To do this, he will require the support and vote of every single and willing voter in eThekwini.

While polls are a snapshot in time, they give the residents of eThekwini hope that a DA mayor and rescue plan is within reach but only if voters turn intentions into support, and don’t waste their votes on parties that can never be mayor and help MKP get elected.

URGENT NOTICE ‼️

Dear Residents

We have seen that our water supply is not stable. If we get into the habit of storing water, we won't have to suffer until repairs are completed.

Our families and furbabies will not have to be inconvenienced.

Please, I urge us to be proactive - we can't be dependent on our current Government.

The positive is that there is progress, there is a Welder is on site and is currently in the process of weilding the steel pipe. This work is extremely indepth and intensive, if all goes well our water will be restored by 23:00 tonight (kindly note that this is merely an estimated time frame) . Teams are working around the clock to get water back in our Taps.
