The Lighthouse Centre

The Lighthouse Centre Mission Statement: Our Mission is to empower the disabled community through skills development programmes in order for them to reach their full potential.

Introduction

Get Inspired was founded by Grant Oosthuyzen in September 2019. Get Inspired travels all throughout Durban to promote the well-being of the disabled in our community by providing skills development programs and workshops such as arts and crafts, sports, and woodwork. Get Inspired is deeply passionate about the disabled community as many of them are vulnerable and are unable to do abl

e-bodied work. This is where Get Inspired comes in. Our programs instill a sense of pride and dignity in the lives of the disabled and it teaches them general skills as well as entrepreneurial abilities that may help them in the future. The products that get made through our skills development programs gets sold at local markets. Half of the profit made is given to the maker of the product while the other half gets used to buy more materials for the programs. Get Inspired also goes to disabled centres and coaches Boccia, a disabled sport, that enables them to compete in competitions and hopefully make the provincial team. Get Inspired is about making a difference in the disabled community and empowering them to become independent. Get Inspired, a non-profit organization, will promote sport and skill development and encourage the people with disabilities to reach their full potential. The Get Inspired Program is about bringing the disabled community together, away from their rehabilitation centres to show them how to live their best life. Get inspired would love to run a Boccia Program, to develop competitiveness with the hope of players entering competitions, and putting Boccia back on the map as an National and International Sporting Option

πŸŒŸπŸ’› A Heartfelt Thank You to Round Table! πŸ’›πŸŒŸ
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Round Table for their generous donation of two beautiful and colourful gazebos to The Lighthouse Centre.
These gazebos will be a tremendous asset to our programmes, events, and market days. They will provide much-needed shelter and create a welcoming space for our students and community members wherever we go.
Your continued support of The Lighthouse Centre and the disabled community means so much to us. It is through the kindness and generosity of organisations like yours that we are able to continue empowering our students and creating opportunities for them to learn, grow, and thrive.
Thank you for once again making a positive difference in the lives of people with disabilities. We truly appreciate your support and partnership. πŸ’™

hope the new gazebos serve your students well for many years to come. 🌟

Hello everyone, I’m asking for your support for a charity close to my heart that helps pregnant teenagers and single mothers.

Next week I’ll be visiting them, and I would love to bless them with much-needed food supplies. My goal before Monday is to collect:
β€’ 50 x 2kg bags of rice
β€’ 50 x 2kg bags of maize meal

Any canned foods would also be greatly appreciated. If you would prefer to donate cash, I will gladly send photos of the food purchased.

I often do charity work for the disabled, but this time I would really like to support these young moms and their babies. Every little bit helps, so please join me in supporting this worthy cause.

For more information, please contact me on 072 117 3716. Thank you so much for your kindness and support.

After our post last week regarding the miscommunication with RocoMamas, we are thankful to say that Head Office contacted us the very same day to apologize and take full responsibility for the misunderstanding. They acknowledged that better communication and confirmation should have taken place beforehand.
The Head Office manager kindly invited our disabled students to the Rocomamas branch for burgers, chips, and a juice each. We were naturally a little hesitant at first, but we can honestly say that we received such a warm and welcoming experience from the staff.
The team was incredibly accommodating and patient with all of our disabled youngsters, making them feel comfortable and included throughout the visit. Unfortunately, not all of our students were able to attend, but that did not stop RocoMamas for going the extra mile. They thoughtfully packed takeaway meals for everyone who could not make it, allowing us to bring the food back and ensure every student was included.
We would like to sincerely thank Rocomamas for putting smiles on our students’ faces and for turning what started as a negative situation into a truly positive and memorable experience for our disabled youngsters. Your kindness and effort are greatly appreciated. πŸ’›

πŸ•ŠοΈ **In Loving Memory of Bongani** πŸ•ŠοΈ

We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of **Bongani**. He was truly an amazing man with a great passion and talent for woodwork. His kindness, knowledge, and willingness to share his skills made a lasting impact on those around him.

Bongani will be remembered not only for the incredible work he created, but also for the wonderful person he was. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Bongani. You will never be forgotten. πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ’›

❀️🎨 Spreading the Love with Art & Craft! 🎨❀️
Today was all about creativity and love as we made beautiful Valentine’s hearts during our art and craft session! πŸ’• From painting to decorating, each heart was made with care, colour, and lots of smiles.
It’s so special to see our students express themselves through art while building confidence and having fun together. Every heart created today is a reminder that love, kindness, and creativity shine brightly at The Lighthouse Centre. πŸ’›
We are so proud of their hard work and imagination!

Through hands-on activities like **woodwork, arts and crafts, gardening, cooking, music, and games**, we focus on ability, not disability.
At The Lighthouse Centre, we believe that **disability does not mean inability**. Every individual is valued, supported, and encouraged to reach their full potential in a nurturing environment.
