Where the promenade ends, the Umhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve trail begins — boardwalks through coastal forest toward the lagoon, birds, butterflies, and the odd vervet monkey.

About an hour to an hour and a half at an easy pace. A quiet counterpoint to the beach buzz.

Bring comfortable shoes and a phone camera.

Hello everyone 😃

It's wonderful to see how a single old photograph can bring back so many precious memories.
Back in the 60s and 70s, every photo was special. We didn't take hundreds of pictures on our phones—we treasured the few we had, and each one told a story.

Although our beautiful little village has grown and changed with the times, those memories will always have a special place in our hearts.

Every picture helps preserve a little piece of the Umhlanga we knew and loved, so that future generations can see and appreciate what made it so special. ❤️

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has shared their treasured photos and memories so far. They are truly appreciated.

I'm sure many of our followers are amazed to see what Umhlanga looked like in those days.

Nelson Mandela Day
This song was written by Don Clarke, who is an acclaimed South African musician, songwriter, producer, author and artist.

He has written music for some of South Africa's best-known performers and films, and in 2014 he and lyricist Kalla Bremer became the first South Africans to win the Grand Prize in the Great American Song Contest with their moving tribute to Nelson Mandela, "The Long Walk Is Over."

The song stands as a heartfelt celebration of Madiba's legacy and enduring message of hope and reconciliation.
