Action in Autism's adult social group organises meetings and activities as a social network for autistic adults. Lasting friendships have been developed over time. The group has been going for over 15 years and is facilitated by psychologists Taegan Devar and Sduduzo Mncwabe. Past activities have included movie days, paintball, picnics etc. The intention is to exercise social skills in social settings and AiA is appreciative of the support from various establishments around Durban who have accomodated the group and been willing to learn about autism. The May 2026 meeting was at Lost in Time. Avish, Jaco and Sdu conquered the escape room.

It was wonderful to share the work we do in supporting autistic people and creating an educational environment where Autistics can thrive, with students from the University of Colorado Boulder, who visited Durban as part of the Global Seminar in Health and Disease. Their genuine interest, thoughtful questions and positive feedback meant so much to us. The students from the Shahumna Centre baked delicious cupcakes for their visit, which was definitely a hit.
Thank you for visiting us and celebrating the amazing potential of every learner.

A huge thank you to Kensington Square for giving our Shahumna Centre students the opportunity to distribute flyers for our upcoming Midwinter Market!

As part of the marketing and business aspect of preparing for the market, our students were actively involved in engaging with the community and learning more about the process of running an event. They had an absolutely lovely time, and we are so grateful for the warm and welcoming reception from the Durban North community.

If you spot our students handing out flyers around the centre, please do stop and say β€œHi!”

We look forward to seeing everyone at the Midwinter Market!
