Kearsney Striders Half Marathon | 10km race 18.01.2026

The Assagay NHW offered assisting with the marshalling for the race on Sunday.

We hope that all runners had fun and that their legs aren’t too sore today from all the hills in Assagay 🤭

Good Day All

Please be aware that the Kearsney Striders Half-Marathon will take place on 18 January 2026.

No road closures will be in effect but there will be up to 2000 runners across the 21k and 10k course, so please excercise caution on the roads between 06h00 and 09h00 tomorrow morning.

Impacted roads include:
- Lello
- Cadmoor/Gevers
- Assagay Crescent
- Assagay Road
- Castle Road
- Kassier Road
- Alverstone Road

A Stop/Go single lane operation will be in effect on R103 (Old Main Road) and traffic flow will be impacted from Chapel Road to Phezulu.

The Assagay NHW and Bothas Hill NHW will be assisting marshals on the route.

Planned Electricity System Upgrade

Dear Residents,

Communication received from the municipality.

eThekwini’s ICT Services will be conducting a necessary upgrade to their Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems this weekend.

Shutdown Period:
Starts: Friday, 16 January at 8:00 PM

Ends: Saturday, 17 January at 6:00 AM

How this affects you:

During these hours, prepaid electricity vending services may be offline. This means you might not be able to purchase tokens via banking apps, petrol stations, or local vendors.

Action Required:

To ensure you are not left without power during this maintenance window, please purchase your electricity tokens in advance (before Friday evening).

Our Alien Invasive Plant (AIP) cleanup is well underway. We’ve already cleared over 2000m² of lantana and bugweed along Kassier Road, and the next phase has started near Protea Place and moves towards the hospital. This project is fully funded by the Assagay NHW, and we’ve already spent R9 150+ . We estimate at least R45 000 will be needed to keep going.

Thank you to Keep It Tidy and Leon’s Landscapes for their hard work and discounted support. Clearing invasives improves visibility for motorists, reduces hiding spots, and helps protect our wetland areas.

We’ll continue identifying and clearing priority areas, but we rely on community funding to keep this project moving.

🌌 Look up tonight, Assagay!

Thanks to three stacked solar storms currently hitting Earth, we might get a rare chance to see the Aurora Australis (Southern Lights) as far north as KZN tonight, 12 November 2025 around 8pm tonight.

Keep an eye on the southern horizon after sunset, you may spot soft green, pink or purple glows in the sky. Even if it’s faint to the eye, your camera might capture more than you expect!

Just to let you know that we escalated non-collection of orange bags yesterday to DSW this morning. They informed the collector. We have escalated again this afternoon. Will advise if we hear anything more from DSW on status.

Please stay clear of Hillcrest Centre (opposite McDonalds). Suspects tried to rob Art of Gold. All responders on scene, please keep clear so SAPS and Medical can attend.
