I recently visited Eastern Cape, specifically Dutywa, in the Ncingwane area at the Village of Mpepheni. What struck me was the dire lack of access to clean water. The villagers are forced to drink water from the same river where their cattle graze, which is a heartbreaking reality. What's even more striking is that this village is situated close to the former President Thabo Mbeki's home.
This proximity raises many questions about the government's awareness of the struggles faced by rural communities. I find myself wondering, do government leaders truly understand that access to clean water is a primary need for human survival? It's hard to comprehend how such disparities can exist, especially in areas near prominent figures. The situation in Ncingwane village highlights the urgent need for infrastructure development and resource allocation to ensure all citizens have access to basic necessities like clean drinking water.
