Durban Society of Model Engineers

Durban Society of Model Engineers The Durban Society of Model Engineers known as DSME is a non-profit organisation (NPO) that was established in Durban in 1913. The rail is aluminium.

It is run by a small and dedicated team of 3.5 inch and 5 inch gauge model steam and diesel locomotive enthusiasts. TRACK INFORMATION

The layout configuration is a 'folded dog bone'. The length of a run is approximately 420 metres. The track is raised and set into concrete beams. Two gauges are catered for namely 3 ½ inch and 5 inch. Our latest addition, the GO125 Track, is situated next to the s

tation and was completed in December 2021. It has an elevated track and is 107 feet or 32.5 m long. It will provide for Gauge 'O' (32mm), Gauge 1 (44.5mm), Gauge 3 or 2 ½ inch (63.5mm) and at the request of the treasurer, Gauge 3 ½ inch (89mm). It is an all steel railway for model steam loco's with real fires in them.
