📚✨ Throwback to one of our favourite days of the year... International Literacy Day!

In 2024, our learners at Perivale Primary School brought Todd Parr's inspiring message, It's Okay to Be Different, to life through creativity, storytelling, performances, and the joyful celebration of what makes each of us unique. 💙🌈

As we begin planning for this year's International Literacy Day, we're reminded of how these celebrations continue to grow, becoming more meaningful, more colourful, and reaching even more young hearts each year. We can't wait to create another unforgettable day that inspires a lifelong love of reading and learning.

👀 Stay tuned... something special is on the way! 📖✨

After a well-deserved school holiday, our team took on the ultimate challenge at HintHunt to reconnect, recharge, and have a little fun together before the start of Term 3. 🧩💙

Now we’re feeling refreshed, re-energised, and ready to do what we love most—supporting Foundation Phase learners as they continue building the literacy skills that will shape their futures. Here’s to another term of learning, growth, and unlocking potential, one learner at a time. 📚✨

💙 The biggest impact is often made by the quietest heroes.

Before a single learner sat down to enjoy a warm meal, the West End Primary School incredible kitchen staff were already hard at work, preparing food with care and kindness. Thank you for being the heart behind our Term 2 Holiday Programme in Mitchell's Plain.

A heartfelt thank you also to the dedicated teachers who gave up their holiday to support our learners, and to Boxer Superstores for partnering with us to provide nutritious meals throughout the programme. Together, we created a space where children could learn, laugh, and enjoy the comfort of a warm meal. We are so grateful for every person who made this possible. 💚📚🍝

“We need female role models.” – Mr Speelman, Principal of Valhalla Primary School.

This Youth Day, 84 Grade 7 girls gathered at Valhalla Primary School for a morning of reflection, confidence-building, and self-discovery. Through journaling, affirmations, and interactive activities led by Anitha Mulligan from CCC Tweens, learners were reminded that their thoughts have power and that they are capable of learning, growing, and achieving their dreams.

A heartfelt thank you to our partners, donors, educators, and role models for helping us celebrate the potential of South Africa’s future female leaders. 💗✨

Every child deserves the opportunity to discover the joy of reading. 📚✨

At Living Through Learning, we work alongside schools, educators, learners, and communities to strengthen foundational literacy through our Reading Adventure Rooms, educator development programmes, holiday programmes, and literacy-focused events.

Through targeted interventions, engaging learning environments, and a belief that learning should be both meaningful and fun, we help young learners build the confidence and skills they need to thrive.

Behind every statistic is a child finding their voice, an educator gaining new tools, and a classroom becoming a place where learning comes alive.

Together, we're building stronger foundations for lifelong learning, one learner at a time. ❤️

📚📚✨ Throwback to International Book Day 2025 ✨📚

Last year, our team came together to celebrate International Book Day and the incredible power of stories to inspire, educate, and unlock opportunity. From creative costumes and literacy activities to sharing our love of reading with learners, the day was a reminder that books have the power to spark imagination and build brighter futures.

At Living Through Learning, days like these are so important because they help bring the joy of literacy to children in under-resourced communities, making reading something to be celebrated, enjoyed, and shared.

A special thank you to our amazing team. Your passion, creativity, patience, and commitment are what make these moments possible. Every smile, every story, and every learner inspired to pick up a book is a reflection of the heart you bring to your work each day. 💛

Here's to the educators, facilitators, and literacy champions who continue to awaken Africa through innovative education, one page at a time.

“Learn more interactively and less teacher talking...” Hearing our educators reflect on new ways to engage learners reminds us why we do what we do. At LTL, we believe learning should be hands-on, meaningful, and bring every child into the lesson. 📚💚

This week, Living Through Learning hosted a 3-day Educator Workshop with a wonderful turnout from our partner schools: Perivale Primary School, Cypress Primary School, Levana Primary School, and Hillwood Primary School across the Cape Flats.

While the snacks and laughs definitely helped, the workshops were also a valuable space for educators to discharge stress, connect with one another, and strengthen classroom management skills through our “control” techniques and pedagogy focused on addressing the 3 barriers to learning.

Empowered educators create empowered learners, and we are grateful to walk this journey together.

Day 1 of our Educator Workshop 👏📚

Yesterday’s focus: control in the classroom: start, change, stop.

Because before learning can happen, there needs to be structure, clarity, and confidence from the educator.

Through practical exercises and hands-on activities, our educators explored how to:
✔️ Start learning with intention
✔️ Change pace when needed
✔️ Stop and regain attention effectively

It was powerful to see educators step into the learner’s shoes, practicing these techniques in a supportive space 💡

When classroom control is strong, learning flows ✨

Learning through play is where the magic happens ✨

At Living Through Learning, we use playdough as a powerful tool to build the foundations of writing and literacy. As learners roll, shape, and form letters with their hands, they are developing fine motor skills, strengthening hand muscles, and improving coordination.

Before a child can confidently write a letter on paper, they need to feel it, build it, and understand it.

This hands-on approach helps learners:
🟡 develop pencil grip
🟡 improve hand control
🟡 recognise letter shapes
🟡 build confidence in writing

It’s not just play, it’s purposeful learning that sets learners up for success 📚
