A Playground Full of Possibilities šŸ’™

Thanks to the funding received, Hayes Primary School has been able to create an exciting and welcoming outdoor space for its learners. The school recently acquired a beautiful jungle gym, complete with swings and a slide, as well as a pavilion and outdoor seating for the Grade R learners. The Grade R climbing frame was also enhanced with a brand-new slide, bringing even more joy to the playground.

What was once an ordinary play area has now become a vibrant space filled with laughter, adventure, and opportunities for children to learn through play. The excitement on the learners' faces as they explore the new equipment is a reminder of the positive impact that investment in education and child development can have.

This support has not only provided playground equipment but has also created a safe and stimulating environment where children can build confidence, develop social skills, and simply enjoy being children. Hayes Primary School is incredibly grateful for this contribution, which will enrich the lives of countless learners for years to come.

Ons is baie bevoorreg dat Mulilo De Aar Wind Community Trust al hierdie verbeteringe vir ons skool gee! Nou kan ons skool nog ʼn beter plek word waar ons kinders kan ontwikkel. - Elsje Mans

Supporting the Growth of Ubuntu Shop and Take Away
Ubuntu Shop and Take Away represents a practical, community-led response to strengthening the Keurtjieskloof economy and restoring a sense of local ownership.

The business is committed to providing affordable and reliable food options that meet everyday needs, while creating employment opportunities within the community and supporting nearby suppliers. As a 2026 beneficiary, Ubuntu Shop and Take Away received some initial stock, as well as freezers and a gas fryer, through the Trust’s support. This assistance is helping the business strengthen its operations and build a more sustainable foundation for growth.

This investment forms part of the Trust’s strategic framework to foster entrepreneurship and enterprise development in beneficiary communities, while promoting sustainable economic practices that drive long-term community resilience. By supporting self-reliant local enterprises that respond to real community needs, the Trust is helping to strengthen the social and economic fabric of Keurtjieskloof.

We are proud to see Mr Eric Isaacs begin this journey and look forward to witnessing the positive changes that sustainable operations, local support and determined entrepreneurship will bring to the business and the wider community.

Celebrating Play, Creativity and Culture

ā€œOooh, die kinders is in die hemel met die draadkarre!ā€

As the Trust begins rolling out its new projects for 2026, Hayes Primary School has started receiving some of the equipment allocated to support its learners. Among the first items delivered were traditional wire cars, locally known as draadkarre.
For learners at this farm school, the draadkar is more than a toy. It encourages imaginative play, creativity, problem-solving and the development of practical skills, while connecting children with a treasured part of local culture.

Through this support, we hope to create joyful learning experiences, strengthen a culture of creativity and play, and provide learners with opportunities to learn, explore and grow together.

šŸŽ“āœØ Opening Doors to Opportunity in De Aar!

The Mulilo De Aar Solar and Wind Community Trusts were proud to support the 2nd Pixley ka Seme Career Exhibition, held in De Aar on 5 August 2026!
The exhibition brought together 1,554 learners from seven schools, with 49 exhibitors showcasing exciting opportunities in higher education, skills development, entrepreneurship and future careers.

A key focus of the exhibition was promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), exposing learners to careers in engineering, technology, renewable energy and the growing green economy.

As South Africa advances its Just Energy Transition, we believe it is important that young people in our communities are equipped with the knowledge and skills to participate in emerging industries and benefit from new economic opportunities.

The impact speaks for itself!

āœ… 91.3% of surveyed learners said the exhibition helped them make decisions about their future careers.
āœ… 89% said the event met their expectations.
āœ… 97% would attend a similar event again!

Through our Education and Development strategy, we are committed to bridging the gap between education and opportunity, ensuring that young people in our beneficiary communities have access to the information, guidance and resources needed to build brighter futures.

By investing in education and skills development today, we are helping build a generation of young people ready to shape the future of their communities!

Learning through play – for practitioners too! 🧩

As part of the Trust’s ongoing ECD intervention delivered by Custoda, Learning Through Play workshops were recently held with practitioners from Happy Kids and Masibulele ECD Centres in Petrusville.

With the children currently on school holiday, the quieter classrooms created a valuable opportunity for the Custoda trainers to spend focused, quality time with ECD practitioners – strengthening their skills and exploring practical ways to make play a meaningful part of everyday learning.

And, as the photos show, the practitioners did plenty of ā€œplayingā€ themselves!

Through hands-on activities, practitioners experienced first-hand how purposeful play can support children’s cognitive, physical, social and emotional development, while encouraging creativity, communication, problem-solving and confidence.

The Learning Through Play workshops form part of the Trust’s broader, holistic approach to strengthening ECD. Rather than focusing only on infrastructure or resources, the Custoda programme invests in the people and systems around the child – building practitioner capacity through training, assessments and ongoing development, including areas such as learning and development, first aid, firefighting and evacuation preparedness.

Heritage Day: Celebrating Culture Through Learning

This week, Custoda’s Level 4 ECD students, supported through the Mulilo Community Trusts’ ECD programme, came together in Delportshoop for a week of training, learning and connection.

As part of the programme, students worked in groups to explore and present the different cultures represented among them. They shared aspects of their heritage and traditions and brought these presentations to life through traditional dress, song and dance.

The activity was about much more than celebrating culture. It created an opportunity for students from different communities to learn from one another, build confidence, work collaboratively and appreciate the diversity they will encounter as ECD practitioners.

The Custoda programme is supported by the Mulilo Prieska Solar Community Trust, Mulilo De Aar Solar Community Trust and Mulilo De Aar Wind Community Trust as part of the Trusts’ broader investment in strengthening ECD and building the skills and capacity of practitioners within beneficiary communities.

On Saturday, 12 September 2026, the Stakeholder Manager and Community Trustee joined the community of Philipstown for the annual Philipstown Wirecar Grand Prix, with the Trust proudly supporting the event by providing water for participants and spectators.

More than just a race, the Wirecar Grand Prix is a celebration of creativity, resilience and community spirit. Using scrap wire, bottle caps, soda caps and other recycled materials, local children transform everyday items into impressive handmade wire cars. Each year, they put their creativity, skill and determination to the test as they race their creations through the dusty streets of Philipstown.

The event brings together families, friends and community members to celebrate the talent and ingenuity of the town's young people. It is a reminder that with imagination and resourcefulness, extraordinary things can be created from the simplest materials. The Trust is proud to support this special tradition that continues to inspire young minds and strengthen community bonds.
