Camp I Am

Camp I Am Free online activity program for children in grades 4-9. Check our website: www.campiam.co.za While a camp is structured, it differs from school.

Camp I Am is a specialized programme of age-appropriate experiential education—learning though direct experiences/activities— with intentional outcomes. It includes life skills education and recreational extracurricular activities. It is an intentional camp where children learn new skills, form relationships, build self-esteem, confidence, and have fun. It’s a ‘can do’ philosophy; a culture of eng

agement, dialogue and affirmation; a place to raise issues, discuss ideas and articulate one’s personal vision through their camp experience. It nourishes a sense of belonging and community, empowers and encourages children to step outside of their comfort zones, which generally leads to growth. There are no grades, no failing, less pressure and an opportunity to try new things. Simply put, a camp is a place that provides a series of activities and experiences for participants, and if it is well done it educates, motivates and empowers.

Parents, here’s what the Spelling BeeHive gives your child that a classroom test cannot 📚

✅ Public speaking confidence
✅ A vocabulary of 1 200 words across 8 school subjects
✅ Financial literacy and real-world banking terminology
✅ The experience of performing under pressure while building focus and discipline
✅ The confidence and satisfaction of performing in front of a live audience

In 2025, 43 schools from Johannesburg South participated in the programme. The finale took place at the Ramolao Makhene Theatre in Newtown, where learners competed live on stage in front of an audience.

In 2026, we’re going even bigger 🐝

Not all spelling bees are the same 🐝

The Camp I Am Spelling BeeHive is a four-competition literacy programme for Grade 7, 8 and 9 learners, designed to go far beyond memorising words.

Learners do more than spell. They define words, apply them to real-life scenarios, perform on stage, and debate, using over 1 200 CAPS-aligned vocabulary terms drawn from eight school subjects.

Four competitions. One programme. One stage in September.

This week, teachers from across the Johannesburg South District didn’t just attend the Camp I Am Spelling BeeHive training. They stepped up for the Financial Literacy Challenge, took the mic, felt the pressure, and became the spellers.

At that moment, the BeeHive came alive. It wasn’t a concept, but a real experience.

One teacher said:
“The mock spelling bee and being the speller helped the most.”

Another shared:

“Now I know I’ll be able to run this.”

That shift from uncertainty to confidence is what the BeeHive is all about.

Because when teachers feel it, they can teach it.
And that’s how we build confident learners.

It’s on for 2026! Schools can register here: https://forms.gle/xuuyi4MPxq7cD7aX7

For more information, email: [email protected] / [email protected]

📅 Finale: Saturday, 19 September. Doors open at 9h00 sharp.

Let’s make this the biggest Spelling BeeHive yet.

February Reflection 🌿

This month, we looked at love differently.
Not just as something you receive, but something you practice.

In your self-talk.In your patience. In believing you are enough.

Growth does not happen all at once.It happens in small, everyday choices 🐝

Before we move into March, pause and reflect:
What did you discover about your inner voice?Where did you practice patience? When did you realise you were already enough?

What will you carry forward?

Word of the Week: Enough 🌿💖

Being ‘enough' means knowing your self-worth.
You don’t feed negative thoughts or compare yourself to others. You treat yourself with the same kindness you extend to othersYou set boundaries, and you know when to ask for help.

Your value doesn’t increase when you succeedand it doesn’t decrease when you struggle. 🐝

Remember: Being ‘enough’ isn’t about measuring up to someone else’s achievements. It’s about doing your personal best at school, or at work, in your own way, and for your own growth.

Now ask yourself: If you stopped comparing yourself to others, would you realise that you’re already enough?

Word of the Week: Gentle 🌱💖

Being gentle doesn’t mean you give up or stop trying. It means not letting one mistake change how you think about yourself.
Gentleness is about giving yourself time to think, learn from what happened, and try again🐝.

So instead of saying, “I’m so bad at this”, ask yourself, “What can I learn from this?”
Gentleness is found in the pause before you decide that you “can’t.”

As we approach the weekend, we invite you to observe your inner conversation. When what we may want or expect turns out the opposite to what we want, what narrative or talk comes up in your head? Is it gentle?

This week’s challenge: Try to be gentle—not just with yourself, but with others too. If something goes wrong or you feel annoyed, stop for a moment and choose words that are kind and encouraging. When someone else is having a hard time, support them instead of criticising, and ask questions instead of judging. Keep a short note of when you do this during the week, and think about how it affects how you feel and how you get along with others. How does being gentle change how you deal with tough situations? Share what you learn and help others see how being gentle can make the world a kinder place—one thought, one word, one action at a time. 🐝

We’re right in the heart of Children’s Mental Health Week, and this year’s theme, “This Is My Place”, shines a spotlight on how vital belonging and connection are for our children’s wellbeing. As parents, let’s lead the way in creating warm, inclusive spaces—at home, in schools, and throughout our communities—so every child knows they truly belong.💖🏠

Challenge for Parents: Take a moment each day to connect with your child in a meaningful way. It could be a heart-to-heart chat, a shared laugh, or a simple gesture that makes them feel seen and valued. Then, share your favourite moment or idea below to inspire other parents on this journey of nurturing belonging and connection. Together, let’s build a kinder, more inclusive world for our children.

The start of a new school year brings many emotions. 🌱

Before rushing into it all, take a moment to check in with yourself 💖.

How are you really feeling today?

There’s no right or wrong answer here. Learning and growing begin with noticing what’s happening inside.
