1st Belvedere Scouts

1st Belvedere is a Scout Group situated in Kenwyn. The group is a member of SCOUTS South Africa a The group started first in 2015 and has since grown in numbers.

1st Belvedere Scouts is an active scout group that are experienced and motivated who regularly attract media attention due to the activities we are involved in. The group is a member of SCOUTS South Africa and actively participates in Regional and District events. We currently have one active sectors operating at 1st Belvedere Scouts: Scouts (Ages 11-17). Here at 1st Belvedere Scouts we strive to

deliver excellent activities that are well thought out and planned thoroughly which enables our young scouts to excel in the areas of scouting and personal development. Scouting changes lives and helps children and young adults to reach their full potential. Leadership abilities, teamwork, self-motivation, commitment, perseverance, environmental and cultural awareness and strong values are just a few of the life skills our members acquire whilst having fun and ‘learning by doing’. Positive peer pressure and outdoor activities all contribute to individuals growing up with the belief that they can and are changing the world in order to leave it a better place than how they found it. Education for Life:
Scouting compliments the school and the family by developing self-knowledge, the need to explore, to discover, to want to know and to learn visual skills. An experience in leadership:
Scouting offers young people a unique opportunity to be trained in leadership and to practice the acquired leadership skills. This is done by focusing on group work (patrols) and progressively allowing young people to take charge of (to lead) their groups. Based on a system of values:
The Scout programme which promotes leadership is based on a system of values such as honesty, loyalty, obedience, cleanliness, trust, helpfulness, brotherhood, courtesy...

International:
Scouting has never stopped growing since its founding in 1907. Today there are more than 40 million members in more than 162 countries and territories. Open to all:
Scouting is open to all young men and women from the age of seven, in accordance with the purpose, principles and method conceived by its founder Robert Baden-Powell. A method:

Making a personal commitment
- to a simple code of living: the Scout Promise and Law. Learning by doing
- active participation, with others

Working in small groups
- in patrols to develop leadership, group skills, and individual responsibility

Stimulating programmes
- progressive activities based on the interests of young people. Activities in contact with nature, a rich learning environment where simplicity, creativity and discovery come together to provide adventure and challenge. A code of living:
A spiritual dimension
- A commitment to seek the spiritual value of life beyond the material world. A social dimension
- participating in the development of society, respecting the dignity of others and the integrity of the natural world.

🏅⚜️ From Service to Springbok — A Journey We Were Honoured to Share ⚜️🏅

There are moments in Scouting that remind us that we're part of something much bigger than our own Group. 💛

Some time ago, Aaqila from 1st Ottery reached out to our Troop for assistance with her Springbok journey. When she needed Scouts to support her community service project, our young people were proud to step forward and help.

So when the time came to celebrate the culmination of that journey, we were incredibly honoured that Aaqila chose 1st Belvedere to host her Springbok Ceremony. 🌟

From being able to support her when she needed a helping hand, to now sharing in the moment where all that hard work, dedication and perseverance was recognised — it made the occasion particularly special for us.

Scouting isn't only about the badge on your uniform or the Group name on your scarf. It's about supporting one another, building friendships across Groups, and being there when another Scout needs you. 🤝⚜️

Aaqila, thank you for allowing 1st Belvedere to play a small part in your journey and for thinking of us for such an important milestone.

Congratulations on achieving your Springbok Award! 🏅🇿🇦

May this be only the beginning of many more opportunities to lead, serve and inspire others.

🌿🥾 One Trail. One Team. Endless Adventure. 🥾🌿

What starts as a hike often ends as a memory that lasts a lifetime. 💛⚜️

Our Cubs recently took on the scenic route from Newlands Forest to Rhodes Memorial, embracing the challenge with smiles, determination, and plenty of adventure along the way. 🌳☀️

Every climb, every rest stop, and every step forward helped our Cubs grow in confidence while enjoying the beauty of the outdoors. Along the trail, they learned that the journey is just as rewarding as the destination. 🌄

Hikes like these help our Cubs:
🌿 Connect with nature
💪 Build resilience and confidence
🤝 Encourage and support one another
🧭 Develop outdoor skills through real adventure

The best classroom doesn't have four walls—it has mountain paths, towering trees, and incredible views. 🍃

At 1st Belvedere, we believe childhood should be filled with adventures that challenge, inspire, and create stories worth telling. Because years from now, they won't remember another afternoon indoors... they'll remember moments like these. ⚜️💚

🏕️🪶 Albatross Patrol Takes on Appleton! 🪶🏕️

Our Albatross Patrol recently headed to Appleton Scout Campsite for a special patrol camp planned as part of Nuha’s First Class requirement — and it was a brilliant example of leadership, teamwork, and patrol spirit in action. ⚜️

From organising the camp programme and preparing meals to managing activities and keeping the patrol working together, Nuha had the opportunity to put her planning and leadership skills into practice in a real camping environment.

This was more than just a weekend away.

It was about:
🧭 Taking responsibility
🔥 Leading a patrol
🤝 Working together
🏕️ Building confidence through experience

A patrol camp gives Scouts the chance to step up, make decisions, solve problems, and learn what leadership really looks like beyond the meeting hall.

Well done to Nuha for taking on this important part of her First Class journey, and to the Albatross Patrol for supporting her and making the camp a success. 💛

🥞⚽ Pancake Evening 2026 ⚽🥞

Our annual Pancake Evening was another fantastic success, bringing together our Cubs, Scouts, families and leaders for an evening filled with laughter, friendship and plenty of delicious pancakes!

This year's theme celebrated the FIFA World Cup, and it was wonderful to see so many of our members embracing the spirit of the tournament. While there were jerseys and colours from nations around the globe, the majority proudly came dressed in support of South Africa 🇿🇦💚💛—showing incredible gees and national pride.

The creativity on display was amazing, with themed outfits, decorated pancakes and lots of friendly competition. More importantly, it was another opportunity for our young people to build friendships, create lasting memories and enjoy quality time together outside of our regular programme.

A heartfelt thank you to all the parents, volunteers and leaders who helped make the evening possible, and to everyone who joined in and supported the event. Your enthusiasm and involvement are what make 1st Belvedere such a special Scout Group.

Here's to another memorable Pancake Evening—we can't wait to see what next year's theme will bring!

🐴✨ Learning Beyond the Trail – Equestrian Badge Day! ✨🐴

Scouting is about discovering new skills, exploring new passions, and stepping outside your comfort zone—and that's exactly what our Scouts did while working towards their Equestrian Badge. ⚜️

From meeting the horses and learning about their care to gaining an understanding of riding, safety, and stable management, it was a day filled with hands-on experiences that many of our Scouts had never had before.

One of the greatest things about Scouting is the opportunity to try activities you may never otherwise experience. Every badge is more than just a badge—it's a chance to build confidence, learn something new, and discover a passion that could last a lifetime. 💛

Adventure isn't always found on a mountain or around a campfire.

Sometimes...
it's found in a stable. 🐴

🌿💦 Adventure Flows Through Every Step! 💦🌿

What better way to spend the day than exploring one of the Western Cape's most beautiful trails? 🦊🥾

Our Cubs recently headed out on an unforgettable hike through Silvermine, following the river as it wound its way through the reserve. From crossing streams and exploring nature to spotting wildlife and enjoying the fresh mountain air, every step was another adventure waiting to be discovered. 🌳☀️

For our Cubs, hikes are about so much more than walking. They're about:
🌿 Discovering the outdoors
💪 Building confidence and resilience
🤝 Working together and encouraging one another
⚜️ Creating memories that will last a lifetime

The smiles, laughter, and muddy shoes at the end of the day said it all—another fantastic adventure for our Cubs! 💛

Because childhood isn't meant to be spent indoors... it's meant to be explored. 🌍

🔥🍳 Learning Today. Leading Tomorrow. 🍳🔥

A group of our Scouts recently attended the Fires & Cooking Course hosted by Western Cape Scouts —and what an incredible experience it was! ⚜️

From learning how to safely build and manage fires to mastering outdoor cooking techniques, the course gave our Scouts practical skills that they'll use on camps, hikes, competitions, and throughout their Scouting journey. 🏕️🥘

One of the greatest things about Scouting is that learning doesn't stop at your weekly meetings. Throughout the year, Scouts have the opportunity to attend specialised courses, earn new badges, meet Scouts from other groups, and challenge themselves in exciting new ways. 🌟

We're incredibly proud of our Scouts for taking advantage of these opportunities and investing in their own growth. Every course attended is another step towards becoming more capable, confident, and prepared for the adventures ahead. 💛

A huge thank you to Western Cape Scouts for hosting another fantastic course and providing our youth with opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive. 👏

🦅🥾 Eagles Patrol on the Move! 🥾🦅

While many spend their weekends indoors, our Eagles Patrol chose the trail. 💪⚜️

As part of their advancement journey, the patrol recently completed a hike from Rhodes Memorial to Kirstenbosch, taking on the challenge of the route while putting their Scouting skills into practice. 🌿🌄

The hike wasn't just about reaching the destination. It was about building resilience, working together as a patrol, and developing the confidence that comes from overcoming challenges one step at a time. Along the way, there were plenty of laughs, conversations, and memories made that will last far longer than the kilometres walked. 💛

👨‍👧‍👦💛 Happy Father's Day! 💛👨‍👧‍👦

Today we celebrate the dads, grandfathers, uncles, guardians, and father figures who walk beside our young people every step of the way. ⚜️

The early morning lifts to hikes.
The camp drop-offs and pickups.
The last-minute uniform searches.
The encouragement after a tough challenge.
The pride in seeing a badge earned, a promise made, or a fear overcome.

Behind every young person growing in confidence, character, and resilience is often someone quietly supporting them from the sidelines. 🌟

To all the fathers and father figures in our Scouting family, thank you for the sacrifices you make, the values you instill, and the example you set. Your impact reaches far beyond today and helps shape the leaders of tomorrow. 💛

The truth is, years from now they won't remember the videos they watched.

They'll remember:

🥾 The hikes where their legs were tired but they made it to the top.
