Western Cape Scouts Scouts South Africa in the Western Cape province

SCOUTS South Africa is an independent, non-profit educational movement dedicated to the development of young people in achieving their full potential as individuals and responsible citizens. Central in this programme is a continuous transference of values such as honesty, loyalty, responsibility, respect; all aimed at governing individual behaviour and the development of strong leadership skills that will equip members to be of service to others and to their communities.

Mossel Bay Scouts has been serving its community since 1909, but the group is at risk of closing due to a shortage of adult volunteers.

We are hoping to reach former Scouts, former Cub Scouts, Scouters, Pack Scouters, Scout families, and anyone who may be interested in giving back to the movement.

Every share could help us find the volunteers needed to keep this long-standing Scout Group alive for future generations!

When Nelson Mandela became Patron of SCOUTS South Africa, he recognised something that continues to shape our Movement today: the power of Scouting to develop young people of character who lead with courage, integrity and a spirit of service. 💜⚜

This Mandela Month, SCOUTS SA members across South Africa have honoured Madiba's legacy not only through words, but through action. From packing Jars of Hope and caring for the environment to supporting vulnerable communities and serving where they are needed most, thousands of young people and volunteers have demonstrated that service is more than one good action—it's a way of life filled with many “good turns”.🌍🇿🇦⚜

As we reflect on Madiba's connection to Scouting and why he recognised the transformative role of the Scout Movement, we also recognise why his words remain relevant today.

The long-awaited Upton Shield for 2026 was held on 19 July, bringing together 54 teams of junior Scouts for a hike in the Constantia Alphen green belt and surrounding area. The original event in May was postponed due to a severe weather warning, and although the July event turned out to be quite rainy, conditions were certainly safer than during the storm in May! The Scout teams hiked to various bases to challenge their teamwork, initiative, and Scouting skills. This year's trophy was won by 2nd Bergvliet Sea Scouts. Well done to all the participants, and thank you to chief judge Robbie Schreiber and team!
