Last week, Uthando and our community partners had the honour of hosting Mpho Tutu for an educational experience, visiting some of the social development projects supported by our NPO.

The day unfolded with visits to Moya We Khaya (Farmers of the Home) Community Garden in Khayelitsha, Goal50 Edu Hub in Heideveld, SEED (Schools Environmental Education & Development) in Mitchells Plain, Pitches For Peace at Athwood Primary School and Belmor Primary School, and ended with a visit to Zama (Try On) Dance School in Gugulethu.

We are proud to celebrate 5 years of partnership and impact, with our fiscal partner in Germany, Sawabona Africa.

We had an amazing morning with Olivia Kennaway from the UK, exploring inspiring community projects across Cape Town.

Our journey began at the Beyond Existence Project in Langa, where the Gogos create beautiful handbags from recycled materials. We then visited Goal50 EduHub in Heideveld, a remarkable early childhood development centre built with recycled materials. From there, we stopped at Siyazama Organic Vegetable Garden in Khayelitsha, before ending the morning at Mdzananda Animal Clinic, also in Khayelitsha.

Reflecting on the experience, Olivia shared:

“Really wonderful experience! The women in particular from the Gogo’s sewing project, and the organic food garden in Khayelitsha were such a delight. I could have spent hours with the Gogo’s ❤️”

To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow. 🌱
​Celebrating the life and beautiful legacy of Dancy Cassell whose passion for the earth knew no borders.
​Following her passing in January 2026, a client of the Explorations Company generously donated funds to our partner organization, SEED, keeping Dancy’s mission alive by educating youth in organic agriculture and permaculture.
​Alongside this incredible donation, a dedicated vegetable garden has been set up at Uthando in her honor. Her legacy truly continues to grow, nurturing both the soil and the minds of tomorrow’s changemakers.
