Our 2026 planting season has officially come to an end. Carrying heavy planting backpacks across rugged, steep terrain is definitely not for the faint-hearted, but true teamwork gets the job done.

We are so grateful to our team, partners and volunteers who helped us this season. As we are expecting quite a hot summer, our immediate focus is keeping these saplings watered, while we also begin preparing for the 2027 planting season all over again.

DRIVING SUSTAINABILITY: A NEW MILESTONE FOR SUSTAINABLE CEDER!

We are extremely grateful to announce that Sustainable Ceder has officially taken delivery of a brand-new double-cab bakkie, generously funded by the National Lotteries Commission
(NLC).

Navigating the rugged, vast, and often unforgiving terrain of the Cederberg region requires reliable equipment. This vehicle is a monumental asset for our team, ensuring our nursery, habitat restoration, and community teams can reach even the most remote field sites safely and efficiently.

On behalf of the entire Sustainable Ceder board, our field teams, and the communities we serve, we express our profound gratitude to the National Lotteries Commission and all National Lottery players.

Thank you for empowering us to deepen our environmental and social impact across the Cederberg!

Keep an eye out for our beautifully branded vehicle on the roads!

The NLC relies on funds from the proceeds of the National Lottery and strives to make a difference by providing grants to good causes and uplifting communities.

𝘙𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘺𝘯𝘣𝘰𝘴: 𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘊𝘦𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘎𝘳𝘰𝘸

Roots in the Fynbos is a collaborative wilderness education programme designed by the Cape Leopard Trust and Sustainable Ceder to reconnect young people with the beauty and fragility of the Cape Floristic Region.

Through a series of two-night wilderness camps, learners explore the Cederberg mountains, discover the remarkable diversity of the fynbos biome, deepen their understanding of nature conservation, and take part in hands-on restoration efforts of the critically endangered Clanwilliam cedar tree.

The plight of the cedar trees and the leopards of the Cederberg mountains offers a powerful opportunity to cultivate empathy, shift perceptions, and inspire a commitment to conservation.

By connecting young people with their natural heritage, the programme aims to nurture informed, resilient and passionate custodians who are equipped to help protect the Cape Floristic Region.
