Community Care Foundation

Community Care Foundation "A helping hand in the community" Community Care Foundation (C.C.F) was first established in 1990 in Chatsworth, Durban.

As a registered nonprofit organization (NPO 083/794) with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, we have given hope to hundreds of homeless and underprivileged people in Chatsworth and Welbedacht communities. Our outreach programmes are conducted in a secular manner with our benefactors, volunteers and beneficiaries are of various persuasions. Our members and volunteers are motivated by

a commitment to emancipate people from the sufferings of hunger, poverty, addiction, abuse, abandonment and powerlessness through compassion, kindness, sacrifice, understanding, service and humility. About 3 years ago a feeding programme came about after assessing the high unemployment rate in the community. Parents are unable to provide for their families and kids went to school without food. Starvation is one of the harsh realities of poverty and C.C.F has assisted in helping putting and end to this with our well established feeding programme. The meals are prepared and consumed on the site. With the feeding programme growing, good strategic planning is necessary to ensure long term viability of the programme and a move towards greater self sustainability. Meeting the operational costs of C.C.F is a daily challenge; however funds have continued to pour in from Chatsworth Christian Fellowship and their congregation. All our helpers at the centre are volunteers. Over the years we saw the beneficiaries start at 20 per day and increase rapidly to about 200 a day. We envisage catering for the needs of between 1000 and 2000 people per day within the next year. The racial demographic is split between Africans and Indians, 70% and 30% respectively. The vast majority of recipients are unemployed and many of them homeless. In addition to meals we also distribute clothing and toiletries. Another prevalent problem in the community is substance abuse, which has destroyed families who have lost all sense of hope. We have trained and qualified counselors that help bring awareness to the community as well as helping those families that have been affected by the destructive repercussions of drugs and alcohol. At present we run an outpatient programme but we believe in order to effectively equip those that are affected by drugs and alcohol, we need to introduce an inpatient programme and facility, where the individuals would have access and treatment 24 hours a day. We envisage building such an establishment to cater for those who need to be released from life controlling problems, discover hope and reach their full potential.
