Road Safety Starts with the Youth

Understanding road safety from an early age is more than awareness, it is about building a generation that values life, responsibility, and respect on our roads.

At Safer South Africa Foundation, through our programmes, we are actively addressing road safety awareness with various stakeholders across all 09 provinces. We believe that education is the first step toward safer communities.

Our learners are empowered with the knowledge of the responsibilities they carry as pedestrians, passengers, cyclists, and future drivers. Beyond that, they are also equipped to engage and educate transportation drivers on the essential do’s and don’ts that help reduce road accidents and save lives.

Together, we are shaping responsible road users and building safer roads for everyone.

Young people understanding the Criminal Justice Value Chain is key to building safer communities and informed citizens. Through our programmes, we are actively educating learners on how the Criminal Justice system works, from policing, courts, and prosecution to correctional services.

A core part of our approach is experiential learning. Learners are given the opportunity to step into real-life environments such as attending court proceedings, participating in mock court sessions, and visiting Correctional Facilities to gain first-hand insight into prison life. These experiences help bridge theory and reality, making learning practical, impactful, and memorable.

In Quarter 1, we implemented the Communities and Justice Programme across 8 schools in 8 provinces, reaching over 800 learners. This is about more than education, it is about empowering young people with knowledge, awareness, and the ability to contribute meaningfully to crime prevention and justice in their communities.

Empowering young minds through knowledge and justice!

The Communities and Justice Programme continues to make an impact at Sithokozile Secondary School through an insightful session hosted in partnership with the National Prosecuting Authority, led by Advocate Meso.

The session focused on educating learners about their constitutional rights, the role of the courts, and the importance of making informed decisions as responsible citizens. Learners were also given a deeper understanding of how the justice system works and the critical role the NPA plays in promoting justice, accountability, and the rule of law in South Africa.

By creating platforms for dialogue and learning, we continue to equip young people with the knowledge and confidence to become active contributors to safer communities.
