On May 23, 2025, SARIMA had the honour of visiting the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) again, marking a significant progress in our ongoing technical assistance efforts initiated during our previous engagement from March 18-20, 2025, under the auspices of the Science Granting Council Initiative.
During this visit, SARIMA President, Emilia Afonso Nhalevilo, stressed the critical importance of Research and Innovation Management (RIM), emphasizing the need for establishing robust institutions that support RIM practices. The discussions also explored opportunities for collaboration and partnership between NSTC and SARIMA, aiming to enhance the research management landscape.
A pivotal aspect of this engagement was connecting NSTC staff members, who are eager to achieve professional recognition in Research Management, with Barbara H. Herweg, a recognized professional by the International Professional Recognition Council (IPRC). Barbara offered invaluable guidance and insights throughout the application process, empowering NSTC staff to navigate their challenges effectively.
The NSTC team actively engaged in discussions about the hurdles they faced in completing IPRC applications and compiling their portfolios of evidence. This collaborative effort not only aims to facilitate professional recognition for NSTC staff but also strengthens the overall framework for research management in our region.
As we reflect on this visit, we are excited about the potential outcomes of our partnership with NSTC and the positive impact it will have on fostering research and innovation management.
