TEENS & TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS — A CONVERSATION WE MUST HAVE.

The tragic death of 17-year-old Cameron Waldeck-Cooks has shaken South Africa and once again forced us to confront something we cannot ignore: the safety of our young people and the relationships they find themselves in.

While the circumstances surrounding Cameron’s death remain under investigation, her story has left many of us asking difficult questions.

Are we teaching our teenagers what a healthy relationship looks like? Do they know the difference between love and control, jealousy and possession, caring and manipulation?

Toxic relationships don't always begin with something obvious. They can start with constant checking-in, controlling who someone speaks to, demanding passwords, isolation, emotional manipulation, threats or humiliation.

We need to teach our teenagers to recognise these warning signs — and, most importantly, to know they can speak up without judgement.

So let's have the conversation.

Today, we pause to remember Cameron and to honour the life she lived.

A life made up of moments, memories, laughter, connections and people who loved her. A life that was uniquely hers, and one that deserves to be remembered with tenderness, dignity and love.

When we lose someone, words can never truly fill the space they leave behind. We are left with memories, with stories, with the moments we hold close - and with the love that remains.

Today, we hold Cameron and everyone who knew and loved her in our thoughts.

May her loved ones find strength in one another through the days ahead. May those who knew her find comfort in the memories they carry. And may the love shared with Cameron continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

We honour her life.
We honour her memory.
And we remember her with love.

Rest peacefully, Cameron.
May you be remembered always 🕊️🤍

SA Women Fight Back turns 7 ✨

Seven years of fighting.
Seven years of voices coming together.
Seven years of women refusing to be silenced.
Seven years of showing up - for ourselves, for each other, and for every woman who needed to know she wasn’t alone.

Seven years of support.
Seven years of care.
Seven years of courage.
Seven years of women standing with women 🩷

What started as a voice became a movement.

And that movement is still here - because you are here.

Because every time a woman spoke up, someone listened.
Every time a woman reached out, someone reached back.
Every time a story was shared, someone felt a little less alone.
Every time injustice was challenged, another voice joined the fight.

And behind so much of that are the incredible women who give their time, their energy, their hearts and their strength to this movement - our volunteers.

To our volunteers: thank you.

Thank you for showing up when no one was watching.
For answering messages.
For listening to stories that were difficult to hear.
For standing beside women on their hardest days.
For giving your time when you could have been doing a hundred other things.
For sharing the load when the fight felt heavy.
For speaking up when it would have been easier to stay quiet.
For caring - deeply, fiercely and without asking for anything in return.

You are the hands behind the movement.
The hearts behind the work.
The voices that keep it going.

Deepashni, Jessica and Rebecca from SA Women Fight Back were honoured to join the incredible women at the Girls on Fire Summit. 💜💜💜💪🏽🔥

It was more than an event—it was a powerful reminder of the strength, courage and resilience of women. We heard deeply emotional testimonies, heartbreaking stories of gender-based violence, and inspiring journeys of survival, healing and hope. Every story mattered. Every voice was heard.

We were especially proud of Jessica, from Victim Support at SA Women Fight Back, who was one of the courageous women to take the stage and share her own powerful story of surviving gender-based violence. Her testimony of resilience, courage and refusing to let her past define her was deeply moving and inspired everyone in the room. We are incredibly proud to have her as part of our team.

Real change happens when organisations stand together. By uniting our voices, supporting one another and working towards the same goal, we become stronger, louder and more determined to create a future free from gender-based violence.

To every woman who shared her story: thank you for your courage. Your voice is changing lives and giving hope to others who may still be suffering in silence.
