Tack donation delivery 🐴

A big thank you to Amanda, one of our loyal supporters, who visited the Unit this week with a generous load of donated tack: saddle pads, girths and more.

What makes it extra special is that it was all collected by two young people from Curro Salt Rock, Taydon Tukker and Chane Eardley, who gave their own time to gather it for our horses. Thank you both. You’ve made a real difference 💙

It was lovely to welcome you to the Unit, Amanda. Thank you for always showing up for us.

Carrot delivery 🥕

A huge thank you to Sarah Brown and Chiara Henry, who arrived at the Unit with bags of fresh carrots for our horses and donkeys.

Carrots are a firm favourite around here, and these will be enjoyed by the whole herd. Thank you both for thinking of them 💙

Good morning from Richmond 💙

Today our team is running our very first clinic in Richmond, reaching a new community and the horses who are part of it.

"How you do anything is how you do everything." For us, being the best at what we do isn't about competing with anyone. It's about working alongside others to achieve more for the communities we serve.

We're proud of how far we've come, and none of it happens without you. Thank you to our CHCU family for all your love and support.

A big shout-out to our grooms 👏

Every stable at the Unit has been emptied of its shavings, scrubbed with Jik and Jeyes Fluid, and then high-pressure cleaned from top to bottom. It’s hard, unglamorous work, and our team did it brilliantly.

Why it matters: damp, dirty bedding is where biting midges breed, and those midges are what spread African Horse Sickness (AHS). Clean, dry stables mean fewer flies and fewer midges around our horses. Alongside vaccination, it’s one more layer of protection as the warmer months arrive 💙

Good horse care often looks just like this. A hosepipe, a scrubbing brush and a team who care.

💕 A Morning for Cancer Survivors 🎀

In honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Tracy Hardouin, Unit Manager at Coastal Horse Care Unit and a breast cancer survivor herself, would love to invite fellow cancer survivors to join us for a beautiful morning with our herd.

Together with Gaylene Diedericks, Tracy would like to give something back to everyone who has walked this road, offering a morning of connection, community, peace and serenity in the company of our beautiful horses.

Come and spend time in nature, connect with the horses, share stories, enjoy the company of others who truly understand, and experience the quiet comfort that comes from simply being amongst the herd.

This morning is our gift to you, offered with love 💗

Happy Boss's Day, Tracy Hardouin 💙

We just want to take a moment to say thank you.

Leading an animal welfare organisation is no small thing. You carry decisions that are never easy, ones where there is rarely a perfect answer, only the most caring one you can find.

Through all of it, you stay fair. You listen to every side, you don't play favourites, and you make the call you believe is right for the animals and for the people who serve them.

Your love for these animals shows in everything you say and do. And your cheerfulness lifts this whole team.

Even on the heaviest days, you bring warmth, steadiness and a smile that reminds us why we do this work.

We admire how you handle criticism, too. You don't shut it out or take it personally. You treat it as a chance to learn, and you keep asking how we can do better. That humility is rare.

You show up for your CHCU family, the two-legged and the four-legged, every single day, and we see you.

Thank you for your fairness, your resilience and your heart. It's a privilege to work under your leadership.

Hose-time at CHCU 💦

It's a scorcher today, so out came the hosepipe for a cool-down spray. The kids didn't need asking twice. They lined up for their turn all on their own 😊

Update on our emergency call out patient 💙

It is a scorcher of a day today, but the heat hasn’t stopped our team.

Our community service vet, Dr Lia Van Wyk .equestrian_, has been treating his wounds, making sure this lovely boy gets the care he needs on his road to recovery.

Thank you again to our CHCU family for all the love and support you've shown him this week 💙

We'll keep sharing his progress.
