Our heart is to:

1st: disciple & rehabilitate (deal with trauma, drug addiction, and abuse)

2nd: training and employment (upskill our homeless neighbors with entrepreneurial skills to create their jobs)

3rd: assist our friends to find affordable housing and help with family reconciliation.

4th: Create a safe environment for our friends to come to when they need counseling or someone to talk to, because we believe we heal in community, not in isolation. If you would like to support our mission, please email:

On Saturday, 3 October, the Rea Thusana team had the privilege of attending the second annual Prison Ministry Seminar hosted by Hillsong Africa Foundation, centred around the theme RESTORE: Restoring Hearts to Restore the Nation.

It was a powerful day of learning and connecting with people working across corrections, restorative justice, rehabilitation, trauma-informed care, ministry and reintegration.

One of the reminders that stayed with me was this: containment is not transformation.

Restorative justice asks different questions: Who has been harmed? What do they need? Who needs to take responsibility for helping make things right?

We were also reminded of the importance of being trauma-informed, not simply asking, “What is wrong with you?” but also asking, “What happened to you?” Understanding trauma does not excuse harmful behaviour or remove accountability. Instead, it helps us respond with greater wisdom, compassion and a deeper understanding of what genuine healing can require.

Restoration is about more than completing a sentence or changing an individual. It is about healing, accountability, relationships, belonging, families and communities.

Thank you to the Hillsong Africa Foundation and speakers including Lisa Marqua-Harries, Venessa Padayachee and Andrew May for creating space for these important conversations.

For Rea Thusana, this was an opportunity to listen, learn and reflect on how we can continue creating spaces where people are seen beyond their past, where healing is possible, and where restored lives can contribute to restoring communities.

Containment is not transformation. Restoration is.

Today our hearts are full of gratitude.

To every individual, business, and local organization that donated sanitary products for our Mandela Day End Period Poverty Campaign, thank you. Your generosity made something truly meaningful possible.

Together, we packed 114 dignity packs, each containing 10 sanitary products, along with essential hygiene items and a personalized note of encouragement. That’s more than 1,000 sanitary products that will reach women who need them most.

Over the coming days, these packs will be distributed to women living on the streets, as well as to the service centers, shelters, and safe spaces we partner with.

Period poverty is about more than a lack of sanitary products. It is about dignity, health, confidence, and reminding women that they are seen, valued, and not forgotten.

Thank you for choosing compassion in action. Thank you for giving so generously. This would not have been possible without every single one of you.
