World Read Aloud Day (WRAD) is a global celebration of the power of reading aloud to build literacy, connection, and a lifelong love of stories. This year, PASA members once again brought stories off the page and into classrooms, libraries, homes, healthcare spaces, and digital platforms across South Africa.

Across the publishing ecosystem, members demonstrated their collective commitment to literacy, highlighting reading aloud as a powerful tool for comprehension, imagination, and human connection.

PASA member participation included:
• Reading sessions in schools and libraries
• Community-based read‑alouds and book donations
• Radio and digital media features amplifying the value of reading aloud
• Online storytelling and video content
• Internal staff activities modelling a culture of reading

Next time we spotlight how PASA members amplified WRAD across media, languages, and digital platforms.

📚 World Read Aloud Day 📚

Today we celebrate the simple yet powerful act of reading aloud, an act that builds connection, sparks imagination, and opens doors to lifelong learning.
Whether it’s a parent reading to a child, a teacher bringing a story to life in the classroom, a publisher sharing books with communities or a reader discovering the joy of story for the first time, reading aloud reminds us that literacy is both a personal and collective journey.

How to join the fun:
✅ Save the date: Wednesday, 4th February 2026.
✅ Plan your story time: Whether it’s a cozy bedtime story or a big classroom event, every read-aloud counts!
✅ Spread the word: Share your photos and videos with us. Let’s get reading trending!

Pledge your support by visiting the Nal'ibali website nalibali.org

On World Read Aloud Day, we are reminded that stories are meant to be shared, across generations, languages, and communities, and that every voice matters in shaping a culture of reading.
Let’s keep reading, sharing, and championing access to books for all. 📖✨

As 2025 draws to a close, we at PASA want to thank every partner, publisher, bookseller, author, librarian and reader who joined us in championing literacy this year. Your creativity and commitment brought stories to life and helped us move closer to our shared vision: a reading nation.

But the work continues. In 2026, our Literacy Committee will build on this momentum with three key activations:
- World Read Aloud Day: 4 February
- World Book Day: 23 April
- International Literacy Day & National Book Week: 8 September

Aligned with the United Nations SDG Book Club’s mission for SDG 4: Quality Education, these campaigns remind us that books are powerful tools for change. They foster empathy, critical thinking and lifelong learning; values that resonate deeply with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Together, we can:
- Amplify the joy of reading this festive season
- Advocate for access to books and libraries
- Celebrate linguistic diversity
- Support children’s rights through storytelling in communities

Thank you for making 2025 impactful. Let’s make 2026 even bigger!

In a time of increasing polarization and rising mis- and disinformation, the publishing and book sector must uphold its vital role in society. As stewards of knowledge, dialogue, and discovery, we affirm that everyone deserves to belong — to be seen, heard, and respected in the stories we tell, the science we create, and the knowledge we share.
