This Women's Month, we are celebrating Anelisa Mashisha from our Oliver Kahn Safe-Hub Gugulethu Manenberg community in Gugulethu, South Africa.
At 21, Anelisa is a student at the University of Cape Town, and credits Safe-Hub with helping her get there.
At Safe-Hub, our goal is not only to support young people through programmes, but to provide pathways into education, employment, leadership and opportunity.
For Anelisa, that meant sports programmes, community events and a team project where young people planned and organised activities while learning about social issues including LGBTQI+ inclusion, respect, diversity and human rights. It also meant access to free Wi-Fi and study spaces that helped her complete her schoolwork, submit her applications and ultimately secure her place at UCT.
"The support and opportunities I accessed through Safe-Hub contributed to my educational journey and motivated me to pursue higher education," says Anelisa.
Her story is one of many from across our network in South Africa, Germany, the United States, India and Cote d'Ivoire. It shows what becomes possible when young people have the right support behind them.
Congratulations, Anelisa. We are so proud of you. ππ
