📢 A HISTORIC MILESTONE FOR LITERACY IN THE WESTERN CAPE! 🇿🇦📚🎉

On Tuesday, 6 October 2026 - Universal Learning Solutions (ULS), Jolly Learning and the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) have officially launched the Jolly Monitor EGRA App! 🚀

This marks an exciting milestone for education, positioning the Western Cape as the first province in South Africa where teachers are using an app to assess Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA).

We encourage all teachers across ALL districts in the Western Cape to install the Jolly Monitor EGRA App and be part of this exciting journey towards improving early-grade reading outcomes.

To every teacher who keeps showing up - even on the hard days, even when you’re exhausted, even when you wonder if what you do truly makes a difference…

Please know: it does.

You are not just teaching children to read, write, count and understand the world. You are building confidence, nurturing dreams, creating safe spaces and shaping the people they will one day become.

A child may forget the lesson, the worksheet or the homework…

But they may never forget the teacher who believed in them.

You may never see every seed you plant grow, but every word of encouragement, every extra moment, every second chance and every “I believe in you” matters.

Today, some of our accredited Jolly Phonics Trainers became the learners again! 🥰📖

We spent the day upskilling ourselves in Jolly Literacy 1, focusing on spelling and grammar, beautifully facilitated by our experienced trainer, Liz. 🌟

Tomorrow, we’re back for Day 2 as we continue learning, growing and strengthening our knowledge.

🎉 A HUGE MILESTONE FOR WESTERN CAPE! 🎉

In December 2025, a dedicated group of 33 teachers, Departmental Heads and Subject Advisors from across the Western Cape began their Jolly Phonics Training of Trainers journey - with the goal of becoming accredited Jolly Phonics Trainers.

Since then, they have worked through a rigorous accreditation journey, successfully completing their benchmark tasks, including practical training videos, planned and delivered live training, and the AI Jolly Phonics Professional Development Course.

And now… they have ALL passed! 🙌🏽🎉

This was the second cohort of Jolly Phonics Training of Trainers rolled out in the Western Cape, making WCED the province with the largest number of accredited Jolly Phonics trainers and coaches in South Africa. 🇿🇦

👏🏽 Well done to WCED and congratulations to each and every one of our newly accredited South African Jolly Phonics Trainers and Coaches!

Your commitment, growth and willingness to learn, practise and share your knowledge is helping us move closer to our shared vision:

🌿 And that’s a wrap for our Thursday School Leadership Sessions for Term 3! 🌿

Today at the Jolly Literacy Hub in Metro South, Mitchells Plain, we closed off the term with something incredibly important - taking care of the people who take care of others. 💛

We were privileged to have Avril & Greg from SKCI Education and Development Solutions facilitate a powerful mental wellness workshop, “From Pressure to Possibility,” with our school leaders from our Hub schools.

As leaders, we spend so much of our time pouring into others, supporting our teachers, learners, schools and communities. But the truth is, we cannot keep filling others’ cups when our own are running empty. 🫶

Taking time to pause.
Taking time to breathe.
Taking time to reflect.
Taking time to be well.

True leadership also means making our own wellbeing a priority. 🌱

A heartfelt thank you to Avril and Greg for creating such a meaningful space for our school leaders, and to all our leaders for showing up, engaging openly and investing in themselves.

Here’s to ending Term 3 with full(er) cups and renewed possibility! 💛📚

And that’s a wrap! 🎉 Our final Wednesday Afternoon Teacher Training session for Term 3 is done.

We are incredibly proud of our incredible foundation phase teachers from West End, Meadowridge, Woodville, Merrydale and Harvester Primary School. ❤️

When teachers understand the power of explicit planning and explicit teaching, magic happens. ✨

And when we know that blending, segmenting and dictation are non-negotiables and that they require abundant, purposeful practice - even more magic happens! 📚✨

We are equipping teachers with the knowledge, skills and confidence to get every child reading.

✨ What a Jolly Good Day! 💛📚

On Saturday, 5 September, we had the incredible privilege of attending the Jolly Phonics Conference in Gauteng, alongside the publisher of Jolly Phonics, the remarkable 81-year-old Mr. Chris Jolly.

What made the day even more special was seeing South Africa coming together around one shared dream and vision - to get reading right for every child. 🇿🇦📖

In one room, we had Provincial Managers from Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and Free State, together with Foundation Phase teachers and Subject Advisors from Gauteng Province.

Different provinces. Different schools. Different experiences.

But one purpose. One passion. One vision.

❤️ Every child deserves the opportunity to become a confident, fluent reader.

There is something incredibly powerful about seeing educators, leaders and literacy champions united by the belief that we can change the literacy story of our country - one teacher, one classroom and one child at a time.

From the Western Cape to Gauteng and beyond, the Jolly Phonics family continues to grow. 🌱

And as we continue this journey, may we never lose sight of the reason behind it all:

The child.
The reader.
The future of South Africa. 🇿🇦
