As governments, regulators, development organisations and the private sector advance digital transformation efforts, Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) is emerging as a critical enabler of inclusion, service delivery and economic participation. As investment in DPI grows worldwide, so does the need for professionals who can navigate not only the technology, but also the policy, governance, funding and implementation decisions that determine its impact.

Our Introduction to Digital Public Infrastructure (iDPI) course offers a practical, non-technical introduction to the nature, scope and implications of DPI. Participants explore real-world examples, governance and implementation considerations, key risks and safeguards, and the decisions that shape successful DPI initiatives. It is designed for professionals involved in building, implementing, funding, governing or supporting digital public infrastructure initiatives.

If you would like to deepen your understanding of the issues shaping DPI and engage with others working in this space, we invite you to join our next cohort.

We are pleased to welcome Robert Karanja as a speaker for the upcoming masterclass: The Digital Backbone: Architecting Trust and Transactions in Modern African States.
Over the past 25 years, Robert has worked across government, international institutions, the private sector and non-profit organisations across the African continent. His work focuses on responsible leadership, sustainable development and the foundations of Digital Public Infrastructure.

He has played a key role in developing multi-stakeholder initiatives and global standards that have strengthened African-led innovation in digital systems. His work continues to focus on Digital Identity, Data Protection, Inclusive and Instant Payment Systems and the wider architecture of Digital Public Infrastructure.

In this DFI Masterclass, Robert Karanja will bring a grounded view of how modern African states can design systems that actually work in practice. He will explore how identity creates trust at scale, how payment systems enable real-time value exchange and how governance holds the system together through privacy and resilience.

This is a practical conversation on what it takes to move from policy intent to a functioning national infrastructure that can scale without fragmentation.

Robert is a Certified Digital Finance Practitioner and alum of Digital Frontiers Institute, he holds an MBA in Strategic Management from Moi University and a BCom in Entrepreneurship from the University of Northern British Columbia.

Join us on 9 July 2026 at 11:00 UTC to explore how Digital Public Infrastructure is being built in real contexts and what it takes to make it work at scale.

EMIs are being held back.

They have expanded financial access for millions, yet in many markets, regulation still limits them to basic payments, restricting their ability to scale, innovate and truly drive inclusion.
In our latest Digital Finance Dialogue, Shoukat Bizinjo, Dylan Lennox, Hellene Oger-Zaher and Pavel Shust explore how more flexible, risk-based approaches are enabling EMIs to grow and what needs to change to unlock their full potential.

The panel brought together diverse perspectives from regulators, EMI providers, and global institutions to share case studies, highlight best practices, and encourage peer learning.
