Thula Baba Project

Thula Baba Project At Thula Baba Project we recognise Mothers as the first Nurturers and Educators - which is why we believe in Equipping them.

We offer the Thula Baba Bucket to honour mothers from under-served communities who complete prenatal and childcare classes. The Thula Baba Bucket is a useful plastic bucket filled with supplies for baby and mommy to start their loving journey together. At Thula Baba Project we believe that a supported and educated mother-to-be results in a happy and healthy pregnancy, a positive birth experience a

nd a caring early childhood. It is this loving start to life makes the difference to the health and wellbeing of the new child, and sets the foundation for that child’s contribution to society. For this reason The Thula Baba Bucket is given as an incentive to pregnant women from The Cape Flats and other poor and disadvantaged areas of The Cape who qualify for the gift by:
- Attending clinic visits
- Registering for MomConnect (an weekly SMS information service)
- Attending Antenatal classes (Provided by one of our Partner Organisations)

We depend entirely on donations and the help of volunteers. If you would like to get involved in making a difference in our challenged societies contact us on [email protected]

“It is in your hands to create a better world for all who live in it.” — Nelson Mandela

As we prepare for Mandela Day, we would like to extend our thanks and that have chosen to generously sponsor this year’s event. 🧡

Your support is helping us equip mothers and babies with practical resources, support, and care, creating an impact that extends far beyond a single day.

Thank you for partnering with us and for investing in the future of South Africa’s children. 🌱

This past weekend, we had three incredible runners: Nicolaas, Shona and Rozanne, taking on the while raising awareness and funds for the Thula Baba Project through our Running to Equip Mothers initiative. 🧡

What a privilege it is to have people choosing to run with purpose and use their own challenges to support mothers and babies in our communities.

Another special highlight of the weekend was seeing marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge: a reminder of the power of sport to inspire, connect and bring people together.

We hope to get again (more) runners together, for the Nelson Mandela marathon in October. 🙌

Winter is coming, and we need your help to keep little ones warm 🧡

We are currently looking for new or pre-loved winter clothing for babies and toddlers, especially from 6 months and up. Jackets, jerseys, warm pants, tracksuits, pyjamas, beanies, blankets, and other winter essentials can make a real difference to a family this season.

Those clothes your little one has outgrown could become warmth, comfort, and support for another child through the Thula Baba Project.

We’d also love to hear from clothing brands, retailers, and businesses who may be able to support through sample stock, excess inventory, end-of-range items, or new clothing donations. Every contribution, big or small, helps us reach more mothers and children this winter.

How can you help?

🧡 Donate your new or pre-loved winter baby & toddler clothing at:
📍 Thula Baba Project, Tokai
📍 Thula Baby Centre, Mouille Point

Can’t get to Mouille Point or Tokai? DM us and we’ll make a plan.

Thank you for helping us wrap little ones in warmth this winter 🫶

Sometimes kindness arrives in the most unexpected ways 🧡

Dawn a volunteer from Thula Baba Project was simply talking about the work we do when a complete stranger overheard the conversation. That stranger turned out to be Jo-Anne Pentz from Canvas and Craft in Tableview: and she donated an incredible 21 crocheted cot blankets for our mothers and babies 😀

Jo-Anne, thank you for your beautiful generosity and for turning a chance encounter into warmth and comfort for so many little ones. We are so grateful 🧡

Meet Shona 🧡

Shona is an adoptive mom to two beautiful children and will be running the Cape Town Marathon this Sunday to raise funds for the Thula Baba Project.

Through her journey in adoption, Shona has witnessed firsthand how important support for new mothers truly is. She has seen the challenges many women face after bringing a baby into the world, and believes deeply in the work Thula Baba Project is doing.

We are so grateful to have Shona running for us this year! 🫶

Last week we had the privilege of being part of the Nurses Day event at Pelican Park. 🧡

Nurses are the quiet heroes who comfort, support, and save lives in countless ways.

It was so special to celebrate and honour these incredible women and men, and we are so grateful to Pelican Park for hosting such a meaningful event for the community. Thank you for recognising the vital role nurses play in the lives of mothers, babies, and families every single day. 🫶
