Big shout-out where it’s due! 🌿

Massive thanks to the City’s CSRM and the Litterboom Project for kicking off this much-needed clean-up blitz along the Big Lotus River, Manenberg.

And this is just half a day’s work! 👏🏽
Imagine what sustained effort can do for our river, our community, and our shared spaces.

Here’s to teamwork, action, and showing what’s possible when we roll up our sleeves. 💪🏽🌍

Another Step Forward for Our Waterways 🌿

We’re excited to share that we’ve added another intervention within the Woodlands Canal, a tributary of the Big Lotus River, located just upstream of the Ottery Shopping Centre.

Each addition helps strengthen the health of our river systems and supports cleaner, more resilient waterways for the surrounding communities and ecosystems.

Community Spring Clean Success! ✨🌿

Today, 13 September, The Litterboom Project hosted a Community Spring Clean along Vygekraal Road in Manenberg – and what a beautiful day it was! 💪🏾💚

The community came out in great numbers, with friends, neighbours, and families joining hands to welcome spring with action. Together, we collected litter, cleared the area, and brought new life to our shared spaces. 🌱♻️

A big thank you to everyone who showed up, worked hard, and helped create a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant Manenberg. Your energy, unity, and care for the environment made this day a huge success! 🙌🏾

Let’s keep the momentum going – every small effort adds up to a big change for our rivers, our neighbourhoods, and our future.

Zeekoei Catchment Forum Meeting – 22 August 2025 🌿

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday morning at Edith Stephens Nature Reserve for a rich and engaging discussion on the health of our catchment.

Here’s a snapshot of what we covered:

Updates on ongoing actions:
•Pollution abatement – efforts to reduce pollution sources in the catchment.
•The Litterboom Project – progress on intercepting waste before it reaches our vleis.
•Alien plant removal – continuing work to restore indigenous vegetation.
•Friends of Zeekovlei & Rondevlei – community-driven conservation updates.
•Communication & liaison – strengthening collaboration and participation in the forum.

Special presentations:
The Liveable Urban Waterways Project – exploring innovative approaches to healthier urban waterways.

Urban Waste Management – interventions planned for the Zeekoe Catchment.

The Bamboesvlei (Ottery) Wetland – insights on its ecological importance and future plans.

We closed with a general discussion on how to keep building momentum as a community committed to protecting and restoring our wetlands and catchment.
