MATCH Foundation "make a tennis champion"

Directions Website

Our aim is to provide talented young players, particularly from disadvantaged backgrounds, with the opportunity to become tennis champions.

Founded by Anthula Markovitz in 2014, the inspiration behind the name MATCH was motivated by her desire to: "Make an African Tennis Champion". MATCH sponsors talented young tennis players whose potential would otherwise go unrealised due to previously disadvantaged and currently challenging financial circumstances. In partnership with the Anthony Harris Tennis Academy, MATCH provides funding for talented young players to participate in a world class High Performance Program, and achieve excellence on an International level. In parallel, we support their educational growth so they are prepared academically to take up tennis scholarships at top universities and colleges worldwide. This is achieved through a tailor-made Academic Learning Program that allows players the flexibility to combine academic learning with the training and travel demands needed to “make a tennis champion.” We are appealing to both Corporates and individuals to share our passion and help bring the dreams of these children to fruition. Make the champions of tomorrow by investing in them today!

A title earned, not given. 🎾🏆

Siyabonga Jaca came through the Cape Town Mini Masters as the Men’s Singles winner, turning the work put in behind the scenes into a result that speaks for itself.

Every match asks something different of a player. The ability to compete, adjust and keep going when the pressure rises is what makes tournament tennis such an important part of development.

A strong result for Siyabonga, and another step forward in his journey on court.

A young player making her mark. 🎾🏆

Winne Masemola claimed the Girls Singles U/16 title at the Cape Town Mini Masters, adding another valuable tournament experience to her development.

Results like this are encouraging, but what matters just as much is what happens along the way: learning to manage matches, trust your game and compete with confidence from the first point to the last.

Winne did exactly that, and this title is a strong reflection of the progress being made.

What a comeback. What a result. 🏆🇿🇦

Lloyd Harris is the Jingshan Open ATP Challenger 100 Champion.

After dropping the opening set, Lloyd fought his way back against Mattia Bellucci to take the final 1–6 | 6–3 | 7–6(4).

The trophy is the part everyone sees.

Behind it are the hours, the preparation, the team and the work that happens when nobody is watching.

Congratulations Lloydie! We are so proud of you!

Talent is only the starting point.

For a young player to go further, talent needs the right environment around it.

Elite coaching.
Competition.
Education.
International opportunity.

Each matters. But none works in isolation.

Five foundations. One connected pathway.

Because a pathway only matters if someone can walk it.

Talent gets you noticed. What happens next is built.

Behind every player is a process. The right skills, developed at the right time, with discipline, structure and accountability.

The work happens every day, long before the result appears on a scoreboard.

Champions aren’t discovered. They’re developed.

South Africa has never lacked talent.

What has often been missing is a connected pathway.

Elite coaching. Competition. Education. Opportunity.

The structure that gives young talent the chance to develop, compete and go further.

From South Africa to the World.

BEHIND THE JOURNEY 🎾

Some of the most important work happens far away from the court.

Meet Dionne.

Flights. Accommodation. Schoolwork. Meals. Birthdays. Travel. Checking in. Simply making sure a young person far from home is okay.

They’re the little things that rarely make the highlight reel.

Except they’re not actually little.

Because developing young players takes more than tennis. It takes people who care about the person behind the player.

And when she’s not doing all of that? Dionne has another creative world of her own at .

Behind every journey are people who quietly help make it possible.

Dionne is one of them. ❤️
