The Anglican Church of Southern Africa has again rejected proposals for greater inclusion of same-sex couples, with a motion to allow prayers for committed couples defeated by just seven votes.

As IAM’s response in Mambaonline.com highlights, we share the disappointment of LGBTQIA+ Anglicans, their families and clergy who hoped for a different outcome. Yet the narrow margin also gives us reason to keep working towards full inclusion.

Pastoral care can continue. Faith leaders can still pray with couples, support those who are hurting and welcome families into their communities.

For more than three decades, IAM has worked towards faith communities where LGBTQIA+ people experience dignity, affirmation and belonging. That work continues.

​Day 1: Human Rights Empowerment Workshop
​Date: 23 October 2026
​Time: 10:00 AM – 15:00 PM
​Facilitator: Facilitated by Tammy from the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC), Western Cape (Cape Town).
​Workshop Topics & Focus:
This intensive capacity-building session will focus heavily on critical legal and civil empowerment, including:
​Access to the Equality Court and understanding legal protections.
​Access to fundamental human rights and constitutional recourse.
​Access to essential public and social services.
​Guidance on completing and submitting Form 2 applications at the Equality Court.
​Day 2: Delft Pride 2026 Main Event (24 October 2026)
​Pride March:
​Time: 11:00 AM
​Starting Point: 2 Mango, Suburban South Main Road (Mitchells Plain / Parow taxi rank), Delft South.

​Pride Program & Venue:
​Starting Time: 12:00 PM (Closing at 18:00 PM)
​Venue: Delft South Public Library and Hall (C/O Delft Main Road and Sandelhout Street, Suburban Delft South).

🏳️‍🌈 A HISTORIC MOMENT FOR THE LGBTQIA+ SECTOR IN THE GARDEN ROUTE 🏳️‍🌈

Today, the LGBTQIA+ sector in Garden Route, George, has made history. We proudly witnessed the hoisting of the Pride Flag at Nelson Mandela University George Campus, alongside the South African National Flag and the University’s flag.

For many, this may simply look like a flag being raised. But for us, it represents visibility, recognition, dignity, belonging, resistance and hope. It is a powerful symbol that says: Q***r people belong here. Our lives matter. Our identities matter. Our voices matter.

This milestone did not happen overnight. It is the result of years of courage, advocacy, sacrifice and relentless work by members of our community and allies who refused to remain silent when our existence was questioned or our rights were denied.

Today, we remember those who fought before us. We remember the activists, community leaders, organisations, allies and ordinary LGBTQIA+ people who stood up, spoke out and paved the way for moments like this. Some may no longer be with us, but their legacy lives on in every rainbow flag that rises.

As we celebrate this achievement, let us never forget where we come from and the struggles that brought us here.

Today, the Pride Flag flies higher. Tomorrow, our movement must continue to fight for equality, safety, dignity and full inclusion for every LGBTQIA+ person.

This is not just a flag.

This is history.
This is visibility.
This is our presence.
This is our pride.
