NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION REMINDER

The UWC Nature Reserve Unit’s second Nature Photography Competition celebrated the remarkable biodiversity and natural heritage found right on the university’s doorstep, inviting students to discover the Cape Flats Nature Reserve through the lens of photography.

The “Discovering Our Natural Heritage” exhibition, was launched in the UWC Library on 22 September, fittingly during Heritage month. Twenty-four photographs were selected for the exhibition, with winners announced in both camera and cell phone categories, alongside a Crowd Favourite chosen through public voting.

The exhibition will be on display until end October at the UWC Library, Level 4.

We hope this exhibition invites you too, to look closer, connect with nature, and discover the remarkable natural heritage right on UWC’s doorstep.

OCTOBER SCREENSAVER CALENDAR

The turn of the month brings a shift in the seasons, and nature has a beautiful way of sending us signs of hope and renewal. If you’ve been looking for inspiration today, look closely at the wild spaces around you.

The White Butterfly: In the natural world, metamorphosis is the ultimate symbol of transformation. Spotting a white butterfly is a gentle reminder of pure new beginnings, spiritual growth, and the quiet resilience of life.

Yellow is the color of energy, clarity, and the sun that fuels our ecosystems, that sparks optimism and reminds us of the joy found in protecting our planet.

I hope you feel inspired next time you see the Cabbage White butterfly cross your path in the reserve.

What a wonderful launch! Our Nature Photography Exhibition was a huge success, and the feedback has been incredibly complimentary. ❤️

Thank you to each and every person who entered our competition. Without you sharing your photographs, your creativity and your love for nature, this event simply would not be possible.

The submissions were truly amazing, and we hope you are as proud of your photographs as we are to have them on display.

A huge congratulations to our Top 24, our Camera and Cellphone category winners, and our Crowd Favourite winner!🏆

A very special thank you to our external judges, Monique Heystek, Carmen Lorainne and Christiaan Cloete, who generously gave their time and expertise throughout the competition. They worked their way through an incredible 196 submissions, spending many hours carefully considering each photograph. But their involvement didn’t stop there. They also put time aside to join our Photowalks, sharing their knowledge, offering guidance and helping our students develop their photography skills. And to top it all off, they joined us at the exhibition launch and shared their insights and inspiration with our audience. We are incredibly grateful for their generosity and commitment to supporting our students and this initiative.

To everyone who joined us for the Photowalks — thank you for coming along, exploring the reserve with us and sharing your enthusiasm for photography and nature.

The exhibition will be on display until the end of October, so there’s still plenty of time to bring along your friends and family to see the incredible photographs captured by our UWC community.
