Throughout May 2026, our Grade 11 Leaders’ Quest learners from Fezeka High School and Intsebenziswano High School brought their leadership journeys to life through community focused Social Projects.

After weeks of planning, collaboration, and identifying issues they felt passionate about, learners designed and implemented projects that responded to real needs within their communities.

The Fezeka High School leaders organised a fundraising initiative to purchase food parcels, which were distributed to community members facing hardship and food insecurity. Through this project, they demonstrated empathy, compassion, and a genuine commitment to supporting others.

At Intsebenziswano High School, learners turned their attention to environmental responsibility. They worked together to clean and beautify their school grounds, creating a more welcoming and cared for environment for learners and staff. In a thoughtful gesture of appreciation, they also gave the school's cleaning staff a day off and took on the responsibility themselves.

These Social Projects are an important part of the Leaders’ Quest Programme, providing learners with an opportunity to move beyond theory and put leadership, teamwork, problem solving, and service into practice.

We are incredibly proud of these young leaders. Their projects remind us that leadership is not measured by titles or positions, but by the willingness to take action, serve others, and contribute to positive change.

The future is in good hands. 🌱

Young people deserve spaces where they can ask honest questions, have real conversations and learn how to make informed choices about their health, relationships and futures.

Through Health4Life’s Straight Talks programme, Life Choices works with schools in the Cape Flats to create safe, youth-friendly spaces where learners can engage openly around topics like self-worth, emotional wellbeing, consent and sexual health - conversations that many young people still struggle to access.

When young people are equipped with knowledge, confidence and support, they are better able to advocate for themselves, protect their and shape healthier futures for their communities too.

This , help us continue creating spaces where young people feel seen, heard and empowered to learn.

When people talk about , they often mean the big moments - the job offer, the qualification, the breakthrough. But opportunity usually starts much earlier.

It can look like learning a new skill. Building confidence. Receiving mentorship. Preparing for an interview. Discovering an aptitude for coding. Installing a solar panel for the first time. Realising that a career path you never considered might actually be within reach.

Through the YouthCode, Solar Youth and YouthForce projects, Life Choices Academy helps young people access practical skills, workplace readiness and pathways into growing industries.

This , we're celebrating the tenacity of young people who embrace opportunities and run with them toward their futures - and the determination they bring to every step of that journey.

Because the future is already building.

Across Cape Town, young people are already building futures in industries that are shaping the modern world - from technology and renewable energy to digital employment pathways.

Through Life Choices Academy, projects like YouthCode, Solar Youth and YouthForce equip young people with practical skills, workplace readiness and personal development support that help turn opportunity into action. Whether learning to code, training in solar installation or preparing for the world of work, youth are gaining the tools to build sustainable futures for themselves and their communities.

Behind every new skill is a young person willing to learn, grow and keep showing up for their future.

This Youth Month, support opportunities that help young people access meaningful, future-focused careers and pathways to long-term growth.

Life Choices works with youth from the Cape Flats communities to make choices that can change the world. We believe there is...

What a vibe!

The Life Choices team wrapped up the week in the best way possible with an energetic Wellness Fitness Session with the help of Virgin Active Kenilworth. The Friday gees was definitely in the air!

The Zumba instructor brought the energy from the moment the music started, teaching us fun moves, getting everyone involved, and reminding us that fitness doesn’t always have to be serious. There were plenty of laughs, lots of dancing, and even a few hidden dance talents discovered along the way!

After a busy week, it felt good to switch off for a moment, let loose, and welcome the weekend in a fun and active way. Sometimes all you need is good music, good people, and a little movement to lift the mood and reset your energy.

A big thank you to Virgin Active Kenilworth for helping us end the week on such a high note. Here’s to more moments like these that bring people together and remind us to have fun while taking care of ourselves!

Access to learning resources can shift confidence and outcomes. Through a generous donation from Monique at the Rotary Club, our Leaders' Quest mentees received Life Choices and Answer Series books to support their Grade 11 exam preparation and studies.

This is not the first time the Leaders' Quest group has benefited from Rotary’s support. Last year, mentees also received Answer Series books, continuing a consistent commitment to strengthening learning and educational access.
Our Coaches deeply appreciate this ongoing partnership. Contributions like these ease the pressure of sourcing academic materials and allow us to stay focused on what matters most: mentoring, guidance, and consistent support for young people in the programme.

A sincere thank you to Monique and the Rotary Club of Claremont for your continued commitment to investing in youth development and strengthening learning opportunities for our mentees.

At a recent Uhambo Lwam session, a learning partner shared something that resonated with most of us in the room:

“Understanding where you come from is important. Looking back helps you understand where you are going. It helps unpack the trauma you need to heal from, the coping mechanisms you need to unlearn, and the unwavering belief needed to forge a new path for yourself.”

Uhambo Lwam is a drama therapy and storytelling programme that uses creative arts to support young people’s wellbeing, identity, and emotional expression.
We spent the day in music, dance, storytelling, and performance.

In one group, learners explored exam pressure through a student who stops eating and relies on energy pills to cope. Another group shifted the story, showing peers who pause, check in, and remind each other that studying also requires rest and care.

A second performance explored family misunderstanding through a traditional initiation story. A young person shared that they were not ready and wanted to wait until after matric. Tension followed, as the father initially struggled with this. What unfolded was a conversation where the family listened, softened, and eventually reached understanding. A moment that showed what becomes possible when tradition and mental health are held in the same room.

We closed with reflection on family journeys and writing down our dreams. A facilitator reminded us: “If your dreams don’t scare you, then you are not dreaming big enough.”

For many young people navigating difficult realities, dreaming is not always easy. That is why spaces like Uhambo Lwam matter. They create room to reflect, heal, imagine, and build futures that feel possible.

On 15 May 2026, we hosted a successful mentorship session filled with meaningful connection and growth. The programme was confidently led by one of our young leaders, Sipesihle Moses, who served as MC and guided the session with excellence.

A key highlight was the Love Languages activity, which helped our young leaders gain deeper self-awareness and practical tools for building healthy relationships - reinforcing that love languages apply beyond romantic relationships, including leadership, teamwork, and community life. This was followed by our committed mentors meeting up with their mentees and the opportunity if for connection and support to our learners and our mentors refer to Coaches where further support is needed by our mentees.

We are grateful for our continued partnership with the Rotary Club of Claremont, whose ongoing support strengthens the impact of this work.

Together, we are shaping confident, self-aware, and purpose-driven young leaders.

It was a privilege to attend the Parents Meeting at Oaklands Secondary School, one of the schools we are proud to partner with closely. We appreciate the warm invitation from the Principal, which gave us an opportunity to engage with parents on the importance of family support and parental involvement in the lives of young people. During our 5-minute information session, the Family Affairs team introduced a programme designed to help parents better understand their children, strengthen parenting skills, and access psychosocial support for themselves. We look forward to continuing this meaningful partnership and encouraging more parents to sign up for the programme as we work together to build stronger families and support learner wellbeing.

Parenthood doesn’t come with a manual - but nobody should have to figure it out alone.

Through our Family Affairs programme, parents like Taryn build practical skills, self-awareness, and support networks. They learn how to understand their child’s development, manage behaviour, communicate effectively, and handle stress in the home.

That translates into more consistent parenting, healthier relationships, and better outcomes for their children. 💛
