*MITCHELL'S PLAIN NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH LEADS POWERFUL COMMUNITY MOBILISATION WALK WITH SAPS LEADERSHIP PRESENT* - _14 Nov 2025_

Mitchell’s Plain — In a strong show of unity and determination, the Mitchell’s Plain Neighbourhood Watch (NHW), joined by the SAPS’ Brigadier Brian Muller and Mitchell’s Plain Sector Commander, Captain Buggs, embarked on a major Community Mobilization Walk Operation on Friday evening—an operation aimed at reclaiming safety, dignity, and peace in the neighbourhood.

More than 140 volunteers from the Neighbourhood Watch and the Community In Blue patrollers took to the streets, demonstrating the power of collective action against the ongoing threats of gangsterism, drug trafficking, and violence. The Community Police Forum chose not to participate, for unknown reasons.

Their mission of this operation: to disrupt criminal strongholds, mobilize residents, and reinforce a message that the community refuses to accept fear as a norm.

The operation focused on known “problem houses”—properties identified as breeding grounds for gangster activity, drug dealing, and antisocial behaviour. Accompanied by SAPS leadership, volunteers walked through high-risk zones, engaging residents and maintaining high visibility.

At each problem property, Brigadier Muller delivered stern and unequivocal warnings, making it clear that law enforcement is actively tightening its grip on criminal operations. Residents reported the Brigadier’s firm stance as both reassuring and long-overdue, signalling that consistent police presence and accountability will form a key part of Mitchell’s Plain’s crime-reduction strategy.

Cpt. Buggs and sector policing teams worked closely with NHW volunteers, ensuring seamless coordination between community structures and SAPS. Their collaborative presence sent a strong message: "Community safety is not the responsibility of police alone but a shared mission that thrives on partnership”

Speaking at the event, the Station Brigadier emphasized:

“Safer communities begin with unity. Every resident, volunteer, and officer plays a role. And with decisive action, we will eradicate crime—street by street, house by house”

Residents expressed renewed hope, noting that the mobilization walk not only challenged criminal networks but also helped restore morale among law-abiding community members who often feel overshadowed by fear.

The Mitchell’s Plain Neighbourhood Watch leadership echoed a call for sustained vigilance, encouraging residents to report suspicious activity and join local patrol networks. With over 140 active volunteers already on the ground, the collective aims to expand its presence and deepen engagement across all sectors.

As the walk concluded, the message was unmistakable:

‘Mitchell’s Plain is standing up, speaking out, and taking back its neighbourhoods—because safer communities depend on the courage and commitment of the people who call them home’
