MOTORCYCLE CRIME RISE IN PORTLAND.
Dear Residents

Please see attached photos.

These are multiple reports of criminals on motor bikes who are robbing our residents are on the rise.

We urge residents to assist in submitting video footage to Mitchell's Plain SAPS - The Portland Sector Commander Capt. Buggs who has committed to addressing this crime.

Be Alert Residents.

From a parent in Panama Close:

I'm just letting you know yesterday at 4:30 pm my daughter and her friend was walking towards our place from hazeldene side down Salisbury road. They were robbed at gun point by 2 boys on a scooter. Her friend ran but the one boy caught up with her and pointed the gun at her stomach but the didn't find anything in her. My daughter froze and the same boy pointed agun at her head. When they searched her and also touched her private parts took her iphone that was in the inside pocket of her pants. So please notify in group please about this happenings in broad daylight with alot of people around.

What is a Ward Committee?
A ward committee is an advisory body made up of a local ward councillor and up to 10 elected community members.

What do Ward Committees do?
They are the Communication bridge between the Ward Cllr and the residents of the ward. The make recommendations on matters affecting the specific ward.

IDP and budget input: They help ensure community participation in the local Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and annual municipal budgets.

Service delivery oversight: They Identify local service problems and helps track development projects in the area.

We have Elections on Wed, 4th Nov 2026, we will be voting for our ward councillors.

Thereafter - ward committees will be established.

I encourage local residents to get involved in ward committees and have a say on service deliver in their ward as well as have a say on how the Ward Allocations of R1million per ward gets spent in your ward.

Attend this workshop for more insight into the functions and powers of Ward Committees.

It also allows you easy access to all SAPS Stations information with the SAPS Station finder, as well as to all SAPS Social Media platforms.

My SAPS provides a new and easy way for citizens to access polices services and information, as well as enabling everyone to contribute towards building a more crime free society:
