Table View Angels (TVA) is a community focused group covering the greater areas between Millerton and Melkbosstrand, Cape Town, Western

Cape. Established in September 2014, TVA operates as a registered CoCT organisation as well as a registered NPO, NPC, PBO and SARS registration. We provide assistance to families in need in the community, Youth group, emergency trauma intervention, senior aid and counselling. TVA identified the growing need to act as a support element to families in the community who have fallen on hardship and find themselves going through a “bad spell”. All our projects are dealt with in an extremely confidential and discreet manner. TVA consists of a group of volunteers who aim to help the broader community by making a dignified difference to the lives of people who need a temporary hand-up. We investigate the requests made to us thoroughly, after which a compulsory home visit is conducted and only after our stringent criteria are met do we offer assistance for a period of 1-3 months. Divisions of Table View Angels

1. Family Support
The first area work was to support families who are having financial difficulty. This could have arisen from situations such as loss of a partner, loss of a job or unexpected expenses. We support families for 1-3 months to help get them back on their feet. Our support package includes a weekly grocery delivery of fruit, vegetables, meat, tinned food and cleaning supplies. We also help with the job-hunting process, having a whatsapp group with local opportunities and help with CVs. We look at a holistic approach with the motto of A HAND UP, NOT A HAND OUT. We will also refer to other agencies, such as counselling and financial advisory services if needed. We visit the families at least once a week and befriend them to offer emotional support also through the tough time.

2. Guardian Angels
Our final area has developed as a result from the many emergency calls we receive, often after hours, from people in crisis. We always helped where we could, but following a meeting with the mother of a young woman who took her own life because no one was available when she reached out, we decided we needed to be more active in this area. Guardian Angels were born in memory of Simone, and we are a trauma team helping out these emergency situations. The team are experienced counsellors or Angels and their role is to support until professional help is available and can take over care.

3. Guardian Angels – Youth with a future
This Youth division is run by our councillors and is a support group from the youth age 12 – 18 with monthly support groups and daily Whatsapp group support as they feel more comfortable chatting with their peers.

4. Angel Therapy
We currently have 8 qualified councillors and 2 addictions support Angels. They service all the other divisions of Table View Angels

5. Golden Angels
Identifying senior members in the community and assessing their needs on an on-going basis. Arranging outings, helping with day to day activities where the need arises and creating an ‘Adopt a Goldie’ project.

Just an update on our su***de case:

I answer the whatsapps and 3 Angels answer the page comments and inbox. It is important to say that my correspondence and what I do and say might be different from what other people do and say, but it is not neccesary to look for flaws on how I respond to trauma cases. If you could do better, please join our team, we need responders.

sigh
Reading comments I see:
Have you got him a job, should be first on your list.
Baby should go to red cross
You need prefesionals to help not just you talking
Send them to Lily Rose
And more and more......sigh

I do me and you do you. We delivered some items to them today and tomorrow I am going back for a chat and anything I missed during the trauma. The people who put these ridiculous comments should rather scroll by. TVA does what we do our way and we have a great success rate. I put my phone off last night at 11pm as I was geting many whatsapps for electricity and food from all over SA.

I get where daddy is. After 8 su***de attempts myself, I understand and I will get profesional help in at the pace daddy allows.

I will do a post tomorrow when we have visited. We have also seen another family today but will wait a day or 2 as the Angel team are exhausted. We delivered yesterday to 18 families and we have no food left, not even a bread. MaybeI will try do a pantry video. Depending on my emotions.

If I didn't answer your message on whatsapp, please dot it to jump to the top for me to see.

Xandi is barking at me for attention, so please allow me some breathing and thinking space with my York Terror as it puts me right in the zone of the Holy Spirit for comfort.

SENSITIVE SU***DE POST!!!!
New Home Visit – SU***DE TRAUMA – Table View
Dad, mom and baby
Ref: M29/5

What turned out to be a su***de call at 2am turned out to be a rescue and new HOPE.

Half the week I have my phone on silent late at night and the other half I am on because 11pm to 6am seems to be prime time to phone for a bread, shelter, nappies and I cannot help at these times unless it is an emergency.

Last night phone was on and with the help of the York Terror I woke up at 2am when the phone rang.

I answered and had a frantic mommy was on the phone. She cried out ‘Help he wants to die!’. Calmly I got her to stop crying and tell me what is going on. When I heard a su***de could be happening, I asked address and told her I am on my way. I got a Bolt taxi and arrived at the house 20 mins later.

Mom was hysterical and took me to the garage where dad was sitting on the floor crying. I immediately spotted the noose hanging from a roof beam and a 3-step ladder underneath.

My discernment calmed me down and I went and sat on the floor next to him in silence. Held his hand was shaking as we just sat for 10 minutes. I also asked mom to leave the garage and go inside.
I told him my name, that I wanted to help, and he can feel free to talk to me.

Softly he started through the tears to open and talk to me. I just listened. This broken man spoke from his heart.

He told me that he is a failure as they will be evicted due to him not paying rent. He got retrenched 9 months ago as a manager of a fruit supply company and they have now sold everything, including car and has been lying to his wife about almost everything.
Mom works half day at a cresh and they have a baby.

Baby is a boy 17 months old and has a colostomy, born with a re**um blockage. He wars a stoma bag as he is having pull through operations which keeps healing with too much fibre. They need to cut away the tissue fibre and rebook for another operation and due to age these operations get done in stages. This baby will have many more operations at Red Cross. Transport is a problem.
At this stage I was relieved that I had a toilet roll in my bag as I bonded with this dad and his situation. Dad said he can’t believe God did this to his child and softly I started praying in the Spirit. I asked him if we could go inside and he agreed and very gentlemanly he let me walk first and opened the door for me.

Mom was busy changing the baby and I was shocked to see what a colostomy really is. Mommy was calming down a little on seeing dad out the garage and in the house. We chatted and talked about options until 6 am. I offered my phone to call medics, SAPS, ambulance, Helplines and every number I had, but dad refused this and asked if we can just talk. I told dad that I am not a counsellor or psychologist and do not have the qualifications needed. The only thing I have is my own attempted su***des that I survived. He asked if Table View Angels can help them. Telling him that it depends on community donations, but we can certainly try our best.

My 4 hours with this family brought many emotions and possible solutions. I so want to talk more, but this post is long enough and will do a follow up post.

Desperate Needs:
Food is urgent
Rent
Toiletries
Nappies size 4
Betadine
Wet wipes
Blankets
My City points

I am rushing this now as it is getting late. I really hope our community can help us with this family. The last thing we did before I left was cut the noose to pieces as mommy and dad gave me a big hug. Lots of work still to do and I thank Jesus for waking me up and taking the call.

😰New Home Visit – Table View😰
Single lady
Ref: H10/5

Mom contacted us for help after a friend from church referred her. Her story is quite tragic and sad.
She was living with her son and his wife. They cared for her as she was diagnosed with serious depression, anxiety and eventually bipolar disorder. She is living from her Sassa disability grant.

4 months ago, her son and daughter in law were involved in an accident in which she died at the scene and his injuries resulted in him being in a coma since then.

Mom had to leave the house they rented and stayed with a friend, on their couch. She is renting a tiny room for R1600. Her monthly medication and tests are supplied by Dunoon Clinic.

Her current living conditions are so bad that she stays in the tiny room except for the days she goes to sit with her son and talks to him. She says that she's not sure if he can hear her, but he is her only company.

We are supplying food to her and will assist her in finding more suitable accommodation.
Needs:
Food
Size 36 clothes and size 7 shoes
My City bus points
Toiletries
