A very special congratulations to Logan, who has made a little bit of 1st Muizenberg history!

Logan is the first youth member in our Group to have earned both his Meerkat Gold Star and his Leaping Wolf.

From reaching the highest advancement in the Den to now completing the highest advancement challenge in Cubs, what an achievement!

We have loved watching you grow through the branches, Logan, and we are incredibly proud of you.

A huge congratulations to Logan and Hunter, who completed their Leaping Wolf Challenge!

The Leaping Wolf is the highest challenge award that a Cub can earn and is the culmination of their journey through the Pack.

It takes commitment, effort and determination, with Cubs completing a series of challenges as they prepare for the next step in their Scouting adventure.

We are incredibly proud of both of you for reaching this milestone.

WOOD BADGE ALERT!

We recently had a very special ceremony at 1st Muizenberg, celebrating Charles earning his Wood Badge and, at the same time, starting a new tradition within our Group!

The Wood Badge is an internationally recognised advanced training award for adult leaders in Scouting. It represents a significant commitment to developing the skills, knowledge and leadership needed to provide an exceptional Scouting programme for young people.

As part of his Wood Badge journey, Charles completed his legacy project, “Road to Springbok”, working with Scouts with physical challenges and exploring how one can make the journey towards the Springbok Award more accessible and inclusive. He is currently just waiting for permission to publish his work on the SCOUTS South Africa Wiki, where he hopes it can become a useful resource for Scouts and Scouters beyond our own Group.

Charles is our third Scouter to earn his Wood Badge in recent years, something we are incredibly proud of at 1st Muizenberg.

And because achievements like this deserve to be marked, Charles's ceremony also saw the beginning of a new 1st Muizenberg tradition that we hope will be carried forward for every future Wood Badge holder.

Congratulations, Charles! Your commitment to learning, leadership and making Scouting more inclusive embodies what the Wood Badge journey is all about.

⚜️ ROVER CREW NEWS ⚜️

It’s been a busy few weeks for our Rover Crew, with plenty of milestones, adventures, service and opportunities to give back!

Supporting younger Scouts has become a big part of Crew life. Our Rovers have regularly been helping out at Troop meetings, sharing their skills and stepping into leadership roles. Jack ran the Swimming Scoutcraft Badge and has been serving as WAL for Scouts completing their sailing hours, while Stephen stepped into the Pack and ran a Cub meeting. Dana and Stephen also staffed at Upton, giving their time to support Scouts beyond our own Group.

There have been some major milestones too, with Jack, Stephen and Nathan officially knighted as Rovers!

Dana completed her presentation to the Troop as part of her Network Badge, had her Going Up Ceremony and was invested as a Rover Squire, beginning the next stage of her Scouting journey.

Our Crew also had the privilege of sponsoring 1st Fish Hoek Rover Crew, supporting them through their investiture and knighting. We are so happy to have another Crew in Two Oceans District and are looking forward to many shared adventures ahead!

On Mandela Day, our Rovers spent a few hours doing service at the Sea Scout Base, getting stuck in and lending a hand.

There has been plenty of time for Crew adventures too. They hiked up Elsie’s Peak, followed by a social braai, and met up for a swim at St James, followed by coffee at Folk Café.

The Crew also joined the rest of 1st Muizenberg for World Scout Scarf Day, helping Paint the Parkrun Purple at Zandvlei.

And in other very important Crew news… Jack got his driver’s licence! Definitely an advancement the rest of the Crew can benefit from.

It has been fantastic watching our Crew grow, not only in numbers and their own advancement, but in the role they are beginning to play within the wider Scouting community. They are leading, staffing, mentoring, serving and sharing their skills, while building the friendships and adventures that make Rovering what it is.

Last week, Sandpipers Patrol Leader Sabastian utilized his experience as a Sea Scout by facilitating a water safety programme for Grade 1 to 7 learners at Kronendal Primary School.

The programme focused not only on practical water safety, but also on encouraging young people to make good choices, look out for themselves and others, and understand how the decisions we make can keep us safe.

With Water Safety as this year’s National Challenge, it was particularly fitting to see one of our Senior Scouts stepping up to share his knowledge and skills with younger members of our wider community.

This is what Scouting is all about: learning skills, developing young leaders, and then using those skills to make a difference beyond our own Group.
